41066 Anna & Kristoff’s Sleigh Adventure [Review]

I recently picked up a copy of 41066 Anna & Kristoff’s Sleigh Adventure. This new entry into the Disney Princess theme costs $29.99 for 174 pieces. The set features Anna, Kristoff, and Sven the reindeer.

This is the second Frozen set to feature Anna in her mountain-cold gear, and the only set currently with Kristoff and Sven. I have a conflicted relationship with this set. The parts-cost ratio is off (17 cents per part, well above the 10 cent average). My initial reaction was that the magenta on the sleigh was out of place and jarring. That said, the set grew on me as I built it. Also, I’m a big fan of Sven. The box comes with parts divided into two numbered bags. The first bag includes Oaken’s Trading Post and the hay bale/tree, along with Anna. Bag two includes the sleigh and Kristoff. The sled rails, in Dark Blue for the first time, are free-floating in the box along with Sven in his bag.

Registration open for BrickCan 2016 [News]

Registration is open for British Columbia’s first LEGO convention. BrickCan is April 21-24, 2016, at River Rock Casino in Richmand, BC, Canada — just a short drive beyond the border and outside of Vancouver, BC.

Registration
Adult (19+) registration is $75 CAD through January 20, 2016. After that, registration goes up to $85 CAD.

After January 20, space permitting, registration may open to teens (14+). Check BrickCan’s registration page for more information.

Hotel
The convention is taking place at River Rock Casino. Convention rates are $159 CAD per night ($189 for a 1 Bedroom Suite), and available up to 3 days before and after the event. Please note that if you are staying before or after the convention itself, you’ll need to call the Reservation line.

Because this is taking place in our neighbor to the north, please note that non-Canadian citizens will require a passport to cross the border.

Do not adjust your television screen

I assure you: you’re seeing the image correctly. Jimmy Fortel presents this glorious retro television for all of your family flashback needs. Complete with bright colors, knobs, and no remote, this excellent little build is packed full of nostalgia.

And by nostalgia I mean that hideous (and yet so wonderful!) wall-paper.

Her Majesty’s Theater is the place for your LEGO West End productions

There are LEGO creations, and then there is Janet VanD’s recreation of Her Majesty’s Theater in Westminster, England. The real-life theater is a cornerstone of West End theater, hosting some of the best and brightest musicals and theater productions. Janet’s recreation painstakingly replicates the exsqusite detail and the theater-going experience of its brick-and-mortar counterpart beautifully.

Her 57,992 piece build features gorgeous detail and took nearly 11 months to complete. The main entrance treats LEGO minifigure theater patrons to posters advertising the production currently on stage: Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Phantom of the Opera, one of the longest-running productions in Broadway history.

Those lucky enough to hold seats are greeted to the stunning auditorium and plush seats, with the musical’s title moment on-stage, with The Phantom and Christine on the boat, making their way to the Phantom’s lair below the Opera Populare.

Superman’s The Bottle City of Kandor

I am going to be honest, here: I didn’t ever read the comics, nor have I followed a terrible amount of the Superman movies. I can, however, appreciate a gorgeous LEGO creation even if I didn’t recognize the reference.

I’ll let the builder, Ken Robichaud, do the explaining:

Once the capital city of Krypton, it and its inhabitants were shrunk and preserved from the planets eventual destruction by the villainous Brainiac.

Kept safe in Superman’s Fortress of Solitude after its liberation from Brainiac’s ship, it became part of the Last Son of Krypton’s collection of unique and precious items and lifeforms from across the universe.

Dans la Lune

Laure (Fujiia) speaks to the daydreamer in all of us with her new piece, Dans la Lune. I love the whimsical atmosphere. The face on the character is simple and highly effective.

Fantasy Castle Cottage

I just had to share this off-kilter cottage by Christophe. I love the off-angle, and the roof. The swords on the door are a nice touch.

I encourage you to check out more of his flickr gallery, too. There are plenty of lovely examples of cottages and buildings that are just whimsical.

The LEGO Tree-house of your childhood fantasies

Tree-houses are fantastic. LEGO is a fantastic toy. oLaF LM has combined them brilliantly, building a LEGO tree-house into a bonzai tree. The result is whimsical.

The real tree aside, this little house is a ton of fun. There’s quite a bit of detail backed into this two-story childhood fantasy. I do have to wonder how they got the dog up there, though.

1966 Batmobile

Let’s go a little old school for this classic Batmobile by Peter. It’s clean, simple, and very recognizable. I love the red strip and the massive fins on the back. It’s such an impractical car, I love it.

The flames out the back just give it that extra kitschy feel.

Cruising with Green T – 1923 Ford Model T

Have you ever just wanted to hop into a hot rod and take off down the highway? Personally, I’d go for Highway 101 as it’s a favorite of mine, but any stretch of road will do.

Norton74 give us this absolutely lovely bright green 1923 Ford Model T, complete with all of the upgrades and chrome you could ever dream of.

I particularly like that the builder has given this beauty her own home in a garage that is FAR cleaner that it has any right to be, and is chock full of details to keep you occupied for your entire work break.

LEGO Ideas 21304: Doctor Who [News]

While the majority of us were recovering from BrickCon this past weekend, LEGO slipped a set announcement out. LEGO Ideas has revealed the final design for 21304 Doctor Who, featuring The Eleventh Doctor, the Twelfth Doctor, Clara, a Weeping Angel, and two Daleks.

The set will be released in time for Christmas on December 1, and will cost $59.99.

AndrewClark2’s Doctor Who and Companions was too great for just one Doctor, who we decided to include two! You can buy yours December 1st, in time for the Doctor Who Christmas Special, for a recommended retail price of USD $59.99 / EUR €59,99. You might want to keep an eye on that Weeping Angel though….
