The annual Kockice Brickstory Contest attracted a lot of talented builders this year including jaapxaap’s Hanging Gardens of Babylon that we posted on Wednesday, but Simon Schweyer‘s Greek Polis is the most massive entry I’ve seen so far.
There is so much to take in! Four unique homes, an amphitheater filled with tiny citizens, a vineyard, a goat herder, a temple, an Oracle inspired by the one in Delphi, and even a man-powered war galley.

If you even think about bringing government, baby sitters, bedtimes, frowny faces, bushy mustaches, or negativity of any kind into her town then she’s gonna do to your face what Limp Bizkit did to music in the late 90s! Grantmasters, continuing in his quest to find new and exciting uses for that Belville shoe, created this adorable mash-up of everyone’s favorite brick-built pony-cat and the foul-mouthed antihero that’s currently tearing up the box office. Cotton-candy coated chimichangas anyone?
Sometimes a unique color palette really makes a LEGO creation stand out. That is exactly what’s happened with jaapxaap‘s most recent build. And considering that scholars disagree on where and when the Hanging Gardens were built (and if they ever actually existed in the first place), no one can argue that the famous gardens weren’t surrounded by beautiful tile work in blues, white, and gold. My favorite details in this stunning build are the bas-relief animals sculpted into the walls and the SNOT (studs not on top) lintels.
Continuing the series of we can’t believe no one thought to incorporate that container piece into a build before, newcomer Caleb Flutur shows us how to use those tall Pick-a-Brick cups for something other than storing your extra long plates and technic pins. Amazingly, this blender is one-hundred-percent LEGO. The handle is held in place by LEGO magnets, the cord is made of hinge cylinders, and there’s even a rubber seal inside to prevent smoothie splash back.
I know, I know. We just told you that if you want to be blogged on The Brothers Brick, please do not to take your photos on your kitchen table or against the wall. What gives? Well, Caleb’s photo is an obvious exception to that rule because placing this blender on a kitchen counter tricked me into thinking, at first glance, that it was real. If you want to be blogged, always remember to use our “three easy steps” and your best judgment when photographing your builds. And most importantly have fun!
Everyone knows Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines, Raphael is cool but crude, and Michelangelo is a party dude. But would you guess the heroes in a half shell could look so phenomenal in brick? French builder 74louloute created this awesome forced perspective rooftop scene with LEGO’s fairly limited selection of olive green parts. In addition to the overall pizzazz of the turtles, there are several hidden gems in this shot including legs used as fingers, sweet brick-built weapons, and strangely, even the flux capacitor.
Frost is churning out a small army of new rovers for this year’s FebRovery challenge. He’s posted a new one each day this month and will, presumably, have created twenty-nine of them by the time FebRovery is over and done with. So far, his rovers have spanned several building styles and themes. His most recent build is a race rover with beautiful angles and a very impressive spoiler.

Remember Set 4183 based on the Isla Cruces scene from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest? Well, W. Navarre revamped it and it is glorious! The crumbling stonework and rickety water wheel are perfect. As is that large circular window above the door. The bell tower even has a complete staircase and bell on the inside!

Inspired by the new Nexo Knights theme, Milan Sekiz has created a scene that, like the Nexo Knights theme itself, is half castle, half space, and complete awesomeness. The swirling portal door is beautifully designed and the premise of the build, the Nexo Knights’ firsts steps into a fantastical new world, is inspired.

Current Iron Builder competitor Tim Schwalfenberg is chugging through the competition, having already completed seven builds. His most recent creation is this delightful microscale train scene. That pin connector looks great as a tank car. But I wonder what that tiny village needs two full tanks of. Gasoline? Milk? Mountain Dew Code Red? Tim’s packed a lot of detail into this small build — my favorites, other than the train itself, include the railroad crossing sign and that glorious gorge-spanning bridge.
How do you fight a foe with ice in his veins and the ability to call down a winter blizzard on top of your head? With this fire-spewing, bellows-powered war wagon by Jacob Nion of course! Though I’m slightly horrified that Jacob folded pleats into that fabric (Seriously, will it ever be flat again?), it resulted in completely adorable (and presumably, powerful) accordion-style bellows. Also, the dragon-shaped potbelly stove and Jacob’s iconic rat warriors round this build out into sheer awesomeness.
Eero Okkonen has done it again! Continuing in his distinctive building style and tendency to create fantastic teams of characters (for example, his prior teams from Pratchett’s Discworld or Miyazaki’s Nausicaa) Eero has assembled these lovely characters straight out of George Miller’s post apocalyptic future. Imperator Furiosa and Max Rockatansky look like they were cobbled together out of the scraps and hatred of the wasteland. Which, if you’ve seen the movie, is exactly as it should be.

FebRovery‘s come early this year! Ilya T.’s greyscale rover is just the thing to kick off twenty-nine days of rover-fueled madness. (That’s right everyone, 2016 is a leap year! So why not use your extra day to build a rover of your own?) I love the tight construction inside the small bubble-cockpit, the conical rear end, and the pop of color from the spaceman’s red suit. But the real selling point of Ilya’s build are those fantastic heptagonal wheels.
