Run to the hills!

Run for your lives!….lisqr has sent an “alien crawler” war machine to destroy your favorite planet. When I first saw the model I thought it was from our own beloved Brother-Zhang, but the lack of pseudo-poetic gobbledegook gave it away.

This diorama is so metal!

Spydor vs. Windraider

Alex Jones (Orion Pax) proves that Prince Adam isn’t the only one with “fabulous secret powers” with his latest nostalgic 1980’s project, The Masters of the Universe. The latest installment in the series focuses on two vehicles the evil Spydor and the heroic Windraider. Alex brings his usual arsenal of weapons to the build including a wicked eye for detail and a willingness to go beyond the purist mindset. For more information on the Masters of the Universe project, head over to Mr. Jones’ website Orion Pax Designs for more He-Manliness.

Spydor vs Windraider

I’m not sure why, but every time I see a reference to He-Man, I’m reminded of the Village People. You can’t stop the music.

Shunter

Once again I venture into dangerous territory staked out by Brother-Brick Tim to bring you some much needed Train-related action. pinioncorp claims this is an old model, but we won’t hold that against him, especially since he found a way to fit Power Functions inside such a small shunter. The diorama isn’t half-bad either, with just enough snowy detail to make it interesting.

See you next weekend, constant reader, unless of course Tim has other plans…

“Why don’t people like me? Is it because I’m a magic user? Or is my beard too shaggy?”

Bricknave makes his first appearance on the Über-blog with his rendition of The Ice King from Adventure Time. The builder nails every detail with the possible exception of the Ice King’s strange fascination with polygamy, which would admittedly be difficult to accomplish without building a harem to go with him.

Planet Gridlock

Feast your eyes on this kick-ass microscale rendition of the imperial capital from Star Wars, otherwise known as Coruscant. The builder is TBB rookie KW Vauban, who seems to be quite the man of mystery with very little to say about himself or any of his models. Oh well, they can’t all be chatty Cathys like Simon Liu or yours truly. KW does an outstanding job of eschewing the standard grid design used by most diorama builders, opting instead for something closer to a radial approach. The only thing missing is all that annoying sky-traffic from untold numbers of floating conveyances.

Cair Paravel

Paul Vermeesch makes his 4th appearance of 2013 on the Brother-Ship with this outstanding microscale castle creation. In the spirit of Paul’s economical style, I will keep my ramblings to a minimum and let you soak in all the micro greatness.

Hammerhead Sky Fortress

Inspired by the collected works of TBB favorite Mike Yoder and the Avengers Helicarrier, Lego Admiral has constructed an interesting war machine he calls the “Emperor’s Victory“. Even though the model was constructed with the Warhammer 40k universe in mind, I can’t help but wish the builder had included a photo of minifig Iron Man pushing one of the blades around inside an engine.

The Battle of Evermore

With a title taken from a Led Zeppelin song, you might expect our next featured model has something to do with ring-wraiths, dragons or apples of the valley. Yokohama builder(s) aurore&aube (w9gfo) apparently kept only the song title though as the subject matter is actually King Kong and his classic cinematic battle against a T-Rex.

“Oh well, the night is long, the beads of time pass slow. Tired eyes on the sunrise, waiting for the eastern glow.” I’m going to go dust off LZ4 and give it a spin.

CLAAS Jaguar 900-Series Harvester

Like many of us, Peter Blackert (lego911) spends too much time in gridlock where the mind eventually wanders to our favorite hobby. In Peter’s own words: “One saving grace of terrible traffic, is that it gives me more time to look longingly at the lovely white-and-lime tractors and harvesters at the local CLAAS distribution centre, next to the highway.” The official LEGO set #7636 from 2009 was also an inspiration for the massive harvester. Peter has also thoughtfully included some variants depending on what kind of crop you need harvested.

I only wish I could translate an object or location on my daily commute, but the Hustler Club and the Ocean-Spray factory don’t really cut it for me.

St. Gwydre’s Church

Every time I get the itch to build in the Castle genre I seem to run across something like “St. Gwydre’s Church by Luke Watkins Hutchinson (– Derfel Cadarn –) and I lose the urge entirely. I can’t think of too many builders who hit the scene harder than Luke did in 2009, churning out amazing, original models at a break-neck pace that has never let up. Gwydre has everything we’ve grown to expect from the builder: muted color palette, leaning walls, meticulous stone-work and nice contextual landscaping.

If you’re the kind of reader who likes a little back-story to go with a fine model like this, head on over to MOCpages and immerse yourself in the builder’s “Dark Isle Saga“.

Friday Night Fights (Round 12)

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another skull cracking edition of Friday Night Fights! Tonight’s middleweight bout features two veteran fighters in the prime of their building careers. Let’s go to the tale of the tape:

Fighting out of the red corner, the Bordeaux Bruiser…Eric Druon (Baronsat) and his “NAVETTE ULYSSE 31“.

NAVETTE ULYSSE 31 01

And fighting out of the blue corner, from Nazareth Belgium….BeLgIuM ww2 bUiLdeR and his “sdkfz“.

Description

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding the outcome of this pugilistic endeavor by way of comment. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights The Suboken Project gave his opponent a savage beating to the tune of a 9-0 victory, causing many in the fight community to wonder if the matchmaker has lost his wits. Only time will tell, tune in next week for more action!

Bad Hare Day

Galaktek makes great use of the part-separator in his recent model Bad Hare Day. According to the builder, “The Heartlake pets aren’t sure what this “war” thing is (can you eat it?), but they’re eager to help. Betsy Bunny has joined the Heartlake Air Force as an auxiliary in her Recon Skimmer, leaping past enemy lines to gather intelligence. Because of the open cockpit, Betsy has named her craft the Bad Hare Day. I can’t make this stuff up.

The time went too quickly, constant reader, and we find ourselves at the end of another weekend. Thanks for your continued support of Friday Night Fights and all the models posted over the last 72 hours, your comments make a difference, not only to the fighters but to all the builders whose work is featured on the Brother-Ship. See you next weekend.
