About Gambort

I'm a builder with a short attention span and a lot of virtual bricks. I'm probably most known as a train builder and was involved in the creation of LEGO set 10183 but I do a lot of other stuff too. I'm also a member of the LDraw SteerCo and a webmaster for the site.

It’s a WIP

Matija Grguric knows when to post a WIP.

It’s Mine!

One of the rarely-mentioned advantages of mining equipment is that it is so huge you can build it in technic and have it be minifig scale. As Arjan Kotte (Konajira) illustrates in this delightful pair.

Amazing World War II LEGO diorama

A collection of Lugpol members (Pit, Mrutek, Rasch, Ciamek, Glaz_Pimpur, Misiek, Zgredek and Kris Kelvin) have combined forces to produce this stunning diorama of the Eastern Front. The diorama is presently on display at Gdansk Town Hall and if I was near the area I’d certainly be checking it out.

The diorama is full of amazing details, wonderful buildings, decay, flora and excellent military vehicles. Kris has a collection of his shots and a lot of links to further shots in this set. This is my favourite diorama ever and sets the bar very high. I’m even more amazed that with so many cooks the broth is so delicious.

Overture for a starfighter

I’m not entirely sold on the big black gun but I like everything else about Jared’s (Freedom01) ‘Overture’ starfighter. Fabulous use of angles and insect fins.

Big Red Train

L&N #295 'Big Red'

Peter Norman (Swoofty) is usually more of a LEGO diesel man. But sometimes he’s a LEGO steam man and this is one of those times. It’s an ugly prototype made well.

Hammer and tongs

Soren Roberts ([Soren]) was one of the earlier and most proficient builders of sub-minifig scale LEGO starships. His latest missile cruiser ‘Hammer’ is another fine example of clean lines, geometric shapes and controlled greebling.

“Iguana” Tank

I’m not sure exactly what the bits of Shannon Sproule’s (Shannon Ocean) tank do but I sure do love the lines of it.

LEGO Batcave

BatcaveAfter building a very nice Tim Burton era Batmobile, Alex Schranz (“Orion Pax”) has gone the whole hog (should that be best bat?) and built it a lovely batcave to live in. He has combined excellent lighting, great use of vertical space, 9000 bricks and all his grey slopes to make a truly impressive location.

I really like that this has the dark comic book feel of Burton’s work rather than the more realistic feel of Nolan’s vision.

The mood lighting does make the details hard to see so check out his set for more pictures.

I believe this snippet of the film sums up the model perfectly. Where indeed? Enjoy!

Race to the top

If you like micro builds and you like good LEGO photography then this shot from Tim Goddard (roguebantha_1138) will not disappoint.

Puzzled?

Brixe63 has some brilliant optical illusions in her flickr gallery. I’m pretty sure I know how this one is done. Do you?

Iron Mecha roundup

The 2011 edition of Iron Mecha has ended and it had some truly superb entries. In the spirit of the original I volunteered myself to write some feedback and crown a winner.

Main Battle A_P_E

Aaron Williams (m_o_n_k_e_y) was crowned winner after barely edging out Rong Yiren (below left). Nate Daly (below right) had the most creative entry with his nautiloid/gorrila crossbreed.

Ent Misbehavin’

Ents

Hideous puns aside these Ents by Shannon Sproule (Shannon Ocean) are brilliant. Apparently you’d know this if you were at Brickworld 2011.
