Pool party at chibichistos’ place!

TBB reader chibichistos wrote us late last month with some news about 2008 LEGO sets (thanks!). Although Nannan beat me to blogging the news itself, filing the e-mail today reminded me that I hadn’t blogged this wonderful vignette, which I originally saw on VignetteBricks. (Okay, that was a way too complicated “via.”)

Aaaaanyway, I think the way chibichistos created the guy in the pool is just genius.

Vrrrooommm!!!

It’s reader submission, day! :-D Peter Edwards sends us word of several new creations, including new racing pits for his track racers (above) and 4954 Model Town House rebuilt as a train station (below).

Garth rides in like a bat out of hell

Another TBB reader, Garth Danielson, sent us an e-mail today to tell us that his blog is turning into a bit of a LEGO blog lately. I checked it out, and liked his “Bat out of Hell Express” so much I came right back here to blog it myself.

I figured the engine should be the first picture in the post, but I personally like the passenger car the most — very Art Deco:

SR-71 Blackbird by Lego Monster

TBB reader mastergongfu sent us a link to new Flickrite Lego Monster‘s photostream recently, and it’s full of pictures of an awesome SR-71 Blackbird. Here’s hoping there’s lots more to come from Lego Monster.

Update: Tim informs us that “Lego Monster” is Ed Diment, already featured several times here on TBB.

Head for the Hills!

So much post-apocalyptic LEGO is set in the city that you sometimes forget what it must be like out in the boondocks for survivors (if there are any). The Head for the Hills! contest in the ApocaLEGO Flickr group has just one rule — the LEGO creation must be set outside the increasingly standard urban landscape.

Expect lots of rural post-apocalyptic LEGO creations over the next while, but one of my favorites so far is Scott Whitesell‘s “Solitude.”

RAMM TorhĂĽter Anti-Aircraft Quadruped

I somehow missed Nick Dean‘s latest mech a couple of weeks ago, but I’m certainly glad I saw it on Brick Blogue last night. From the radar dish to the splash of red and white among all the black, this is very cool.

The Darque Pontiff takes to the skies!

His Evilness Pontiff Paeyn of the Darque Empire aloft in his sky sled, as captured for posterity by Fedde (aka cthulthu).

If this building trend keeps up, we may need to add a whole new category for all these magical flying contraptions! (Steampunk+Castle for now, and mental note to think about this later…)

10182 Cafe Corner Space Roll by Mashikuf

Brickshelfer mashikuf (of the LEGO/Playmobil blog Toys in the Attic) has been building “space rolls” for quite some time, and has even posted specifications.

His latest space roll is inspired by 10182 Café Corner:

Brythwch by McZargald

McZargald is one of my new contacts on Flickr, and I’m already impressed by what I’m seeing in his photostream (though I remember seeing a few creations on Brickshelf a while ago). McZargald’s newest mech is a wheeled thingy with an interesting color scheme.

Insert witty post title here

Mike Yoder‘s Viper Mech is certainly cool, but I love this action shot, combined with all the funny captions other Flickr users have added.

Beirut AT-89 mecha by Adrian Florea

Adrian Florea seems to have cornered the market on unconventional, spiky mecha. In contrast, Adrian’s design for the mecha’s head is beautifully smooth.

Indiana Jones and the Flying Wing

No, this isn’t an official set, although it looks very much like it could be! Tyler (“Legohaulic”) has indeed captured the look of the current Indiana Jones sets with his Flying Wing (from Raiders of the Lost Ark).
