About Clinton

I'm all the way down in a little country called South Africa. There's no lions roaming the streets, unfortunately, but there is everyone's favourite plastic brick.   I don't have a lot of my own work online (yet), but I've been following The Brother Brick for around eight years, so it's bizarre that I'm going to be writing for it.   My day job is journalism covering the maker movement for htxt.africa. And yes, I do occasionally sneak stories of Lego onto the site.   Follow my ramblings, LEGO and otherwise: Twitter: @Clint_Matos | Instagram: @clinton_matos

Oh, you have a Hulk? That’s nice

As part of Creations for Charity 2016, builder Tim Lydy has created a rather worn out LEGO rendition of Thor’s brother Loki. This version of the character is sporting the much brighter attire of the character’s original comic book design and it looks great in brick form.

Loki

Loki’s extremely relaxed posture is thanks to him actually being constructed in several smaller sections that aren’t attached to each other, but to the chair instead. The other big trick here is the rug which I definitely thought was not LEGO, but apparently is. Tim states that it’s an official piece from Duplo set 5598 Dino Valley.

Another LEGO Medabot done right

When nobu_tary graced us with a LEGO version of Metabee, the main robot from the Medabots franchise, I was happy enough that a relatively obscure show had got some LEGO love. But there was more love to come, as the builder has returned with Rokusho, another bot from the franchise. I implore you to look at the original Rokusho design and then the LEGO version below – it’s spot on!

Making old themes new again with two Blacktron mechs

We love seeing the community taking old LEGO themes and making new creations where the LEGO Company stopped. Today’s examples are two mechs from Blacktron courtesy of SpirituInsanum. The larger, humanoid mech is my favourite here, but please let me know which one you like more.

Remember to check out the builder’s photostream for more angles of each build. Here’s another shot of the bipedal one because I just can’t help myself:

Bla.K:Tron Exterminator

Finally, I don’t know if this is intentional or not, but the larger mech really looks like a mixture of two official LEGO sets to me, namely 8970 Robo Attack and 70704 Vermin Vaporizer.

Superb LEGO rendition of the Batman: Arkham Asylum batmobile

Batman: Arkham Asylum is one of the best Batman games. While the Batmobile didn’t have a starring role in Arkham Knight, it did have a fantastic version of the famous car. Paying homage and giving us the best LEGO recreation of it so far is Eric Druon.

One thing to be noted here is the scale here. This model is (by my count) fourteen studs wide. While it may not seem to big from that metric alone, the Batmobile from 76045: Kryptonite Interception is twelve studs at its widest.

LEGO Stingray Corvettes capture all the details

While LEGO had its try at creating a brick version of a Corvette in 75870: Chevrolet Corvette Z06, it was hampered by a small (minifig) scale and the need to make a sturdy set that kids could be play with.

Not affected by either of these constraints, Dave Slater has created a huge version of the 2015 Stingray Corvette Z51. If you need an idea of scale, LEGO’s minifig scale version is pictured right next to it.

Doomguy is here to blast all your LEGO demons back to brick hell

When the 2016 reboot of DOOM launched we covered a collection of classic demons from the games that included a perfect rendition of the player character (sometimes called Doomguy). Those versions were comprised of Bionicle and Hero Factory parts, but today we’re looking at one created with more traditional bricks by Anton Sundström. Which one do you like best?

Doomguy

If you’re on the fence about DOOM, let me suggest my review of the game. As the year draws to a close it’s looking more and more like the best title to be released in 2016.

Nice parts usage for a nice-looking vehicle

You don’t always have to increase a LEGO model’s scale to create more detail — some creations show off how we can be tricked into thinking pieces are something they’re not. Take this ’67 Mustang Fastback by George Panteleon for example…

Mustang 67 Fastback

The lights are actually empty Technic pin holes, the side mirrors are old trailer hitch pieces, and the exhausts are one piece – the classic 1X2 plate with handles on each side. How many more clever parts usages can you find?

It’s not a dragon if it has no wings

After bringing us an almost perfect rendition of Samus Aran, Finnish builder Eero Okkonen returns with a beast that looks like a dragon, but isn’t. Called “Guechex” this monster makes good use of printed Bionicle armour pieces as well as a solid red and black colour scheme to tell us that this is a fiery being. Check out the builder’s personal blog for additional pictures.

Holy chiseled abs, Batman!

Few do strong LEGO character creations as well as nobu_tary. Just check out MetabeeRei Ayanami and RX-77-2 Guncannon, all made by the same builder. But today’s build is none other than the caped crusader, which has been captured brilliantly despite a lack of facial features.

BATMAN

While the chunky brick build is obviously the best part about it, I think the cape (most likely from the LEGO Star Wars poseable action figure line) is worth a mention too. It probably doesn’t let the build glide through the air or block bullets, but it looks damn good.

Little monster walks tall

We’ve seen many brick-built LEGO Godzillas over the years, but this one by SPARKART! may be the smallest. Despite its size, it still manages to convey the feeling of a towering creature of destruction. All it needs now is a microscale city to destroy.

Leg Godt Zilla

One final point to note here is that the colour composition of this picture makes the grey bricks look almost blue. For a second I thought we might be getting the ubiquitous Mixel joints in some new colours, but sadly my hopes were to be dashed!
