While it does share some similar attributes with the iconic X-wing Fighter, this little craft, by Pascal, can fly on it’s own. The staggered wings really appeal to me, as does heavily rounded nose. And that checkered pattern is the icing on the cake.
This little beauty, by Jackson, has a lot going for it. The beefy engines give it somewhat of a ‘chibi’ look which I’m liking here. The color selection and precise sticker arrangement work together to give it a nice, clean feel.
I admit. I couldn’t decide which of the two I wanted to blog, so I went with both. Ryan (eldeeem) posted two amazing space creations recently, and they demand to be seen.
Let’s to with science fiction first. Ryan posted the latest addition to the Starfighter Telephone game with his contribution, the Nata V.II:

For science fact, Ryan’s posted this stunning commission for the University of Colorado Boulder. According to the description, this will be on display mid-September. The build features the Apollo 11 service module, nicknamed Columbia. This module, commanded by Neil Armstrong, brought he and fellow crewmates Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin to the moon 45 years ago this past July.
So. Here’s the question: Science Fact or Science Fiction? Which is your favorite?
Whiskers in a sci-fi context always make me think of Seaquest DSV. Now granted this funky little starfighter by Jacob Unterreiner (4estFeller) doesn’t really look like a submarine, but then again maybe it does kind of look like some sort of alien catfish. Anyways, I digress…this ship is cool, and the integration of the antenna elements is pretty expertly done. It has plenty of fresh style that is just fun to look at.
…remember Darwin the dolphin? He was awesome!
We at The Brothers Brick were recently talking about whether there should be a statute of limitations on blogging a model. We obviously want to keep the majority of our posts fresh and new, but we all agreed that there are a lot of models in people’s back catalogues that deserve the spot light. Whether you have been around the community since LUGNET or are new this year, we think everyone will appreciate seeing these again or for the first time.
I will start us off with this classic by The Grandpappy, the Peregrine Multi-Role Starfighter. This has long been one of my favourite starfighters of all time. The combination of space superiority fighter and mecha will make any geek giddy. I also love the idea of treating the mecha frame as a weapons component as opposed to a permanent part of the design.

I am continually blown away by how creative people can be with designs of starfighters. They certainly are my favourite subject to build in, but I tend to stick pretty close to boilerplate styling. But seeing designs like these make me want to get more creative with my own builds. So on this chilly Wednesday morning, pull up a chair and sip on these steaming cups of brain juice…

They may be my arch nemesisisss’s?, nemisie? nemisee? nemi, nemi…well let’s just go with enemies. But even I have to tip my hat to these guys’ performances. We previously featured some the team’s work for the 3rd round of the Starfighter Telephone Game. Well it was now Peter Morris’ turn, and not surprising he has come up with a slick little fighter. I will actually go so far as to say that this thing is approaching perfection. The angles and controlled colour blocking/striping are expertly done. For being such a compact fighter there is a tonne of details to catch your eye. I am not ashamed to say that I want one.
Well played Mr. Morris, well played…
Remember that R-Type Build challenge from way back when? Well Uspez Morbo not being one to follow the herd said to himself, “Pfft…who needs monthly deadlines?!”
And I said to myself, “Am I ever glad that Uspez is a rebellious bugger!”
So without further delay, here is Uspez’s contribution to the R-Type & Beyond build challenge…finally!!

The Starfighter Telephone Game was started over two years ago and now for the first time a round has been completed. The game works just like the grade-school game from which it got it’s name. Someone starts off by building a starfighter and ships it to the next player, they keep it and build a new fighter inspired by the previous. Game carries on until the first player receives the final fighter.
With three rounds underway and dozens of builders spread across the globe, I think it is safe to say that the game is a success (even with a few delays and hiccups along the way).
Mark Stafford just posted the pictures of the final version of the starfighter for his team (which I was lucky enough to be a part of). All I have to say is that Mike Yoder is a lucky boy to end up with this thing.
Mark also did up a quick video showing the progression of the design from start to finish.

Update:
Mike just did up this edit of the linear progression of each version. It is very cool just how much it changes from step to step.
This seems to be the week of angular spaceships, as legodrome adds his own pointy starfighter to the mix. The engine cluster and underside bristling with missiles are excellent, beautifully presented in this collage view.
Sitting in the Starbucks drive through and figured I would multi-task (don’t worry my car is safely in park…it is a long line).
This morning’s fix of R-Typey goodness comes from halfbeak with two rockin’ edits…one old-school and one new-school.
In other news, I finally got my caffeine fix now as well…
Well I guess technically fuchsia. Regardless, this R-Type by F@bz is downright wonderful and very unique representation of the source. The exposed mechanical components coupled with the brilliant colouring make this incredibly fun to look at. It also helps that I find it reminiscent of one of my favourite LEGO starfighters of all time, Max Braun’s Nayvyr PSX-6.2.
