LEGO Star Wars is one of the most popular LEGO themes of all time. Far beyond X-wings and TIE fighters, there’s a whole expanded universe of inspiration, and an army of LEGO fans ready to build whatever comes out of George Lucas’s head next.

Coins only

It’s true, the Jawas drive a hard bargain.

How about them podracers?

FBTB’s 2011 Podracer Challenge drew about 50 entries for podracers that feature a non-Star Wars theme. You can see all the podracers in detail in the first voting phase of the contest.

Microscale 10188 Death Star makes up for lack of minifigs with sheer adorableness

As much as we enjoy them, I suspect we’re all used to seeing microscale modular buildings at this point. But a micro version of 10188 Death Star? Well done, Brickbuilder0937!

Death star mini-2

Brickbuilder0937 further miniaturizes the mini TIE Fighter, and includes every little scene from the official set — detention block, trash compactor, throne room, and more. But my favorite feature is the little extra star on the end of the Death Star laser. Adorable!

LEGO Star Wars 10221 Super Star Destroyer revealed on LEGO.com [News]

LEGO.com revealed the first photo of an upcoming large-scale LEGO Star Wars set earlier today, 10221 Super Star Destroyer — presumably Darth Vader’s flagship Executor.

The piece count and price are still unknown, but the set appears to come with an Imperial Officer and Darth Vader, alongside three bounty hunters — Dengar, IG-88, and Bossk. The minifigs amuse me considering that the micro Star Destroyer next to the SSD is to scale…

McPod – a cheesy podburger that flies

I can’t say anything more clever than The Living Brick did about this podracer that Tommy Williamson built for the 2011 FBTB Podracer Challenge, so I’ll just quote OJ: “It looks almost good enough to eat! So in that respect it’s very similar to the real thing.” Indeed…

Chrome Stormtrooper winners

LEGO Chrome StormtrooperSince the April Fool’s joke about winning 800 chrome stormtroopers accidentally got posted at 10 PM on March 31 causing a shocking number of you to apparently take the post seriously, we’re making it up to you by giving away 5 of the real thing (which is all we actually have) to 5 of you who commented on the post.

And the randomly generated winners are:

  • bluesky681
  • tigre-bleu
  • Cold Ivory
  • toksik
  • bricktrooper403

We’ll shoot you an e-mail to get your contact info to send you the stormie.

Now, with that out of the way, I’ll add one note of caution about Things You Read on the Internet: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. And then magnify that by a factor of 83.4% whenever it’s April 1 somewhere on the planet. Eight hundred chrome stormtroopers to one winner? Really, people? Really?

Sigh…

[April Fools’!] Win 800 Chrome Stormtroopers!

UPDATE: Very real apologies to those of you took this seriously due to the incorrect time stamp — a technical glitch on our end. To make it up to all of you, our loyal readers, we will indeed (no joking) raffle off 5 chrome stormies to 5 of you. We’ll contact you at the e-mail you used to register.

FBTB covers 2011 LEGO Star Wars & more from Toy Fair 2011 in NYC [News]

Though The Brothers Brick couldn’t make it to New York this year for Toy Fair, our friends over at FBTB attended both the press event and the full show, to bring everyone great pictures of new and upcoming LEGO sets.

A few quick highlights…

LEGO Star Wars returns to Episode I: The Phantom Menace with a number of new sets that refresh designs from 10 or more years ago, including podracers and Darth Maul’s Sith Infiltrator.

LEGO Toy Fair 2011 - Star Wars - 7962 Anakin's and Sebulba's Podracers - 01

LEGO expands its Disney/Pixar line with a System-scale Cars theme.

LEGO Toy Fair 2011 - Cars - 8201 Classic Mater - 1

I’m personally most intrigued by the new Alien Conquest theme, which, if it’s anything like Agents or NinjaGo, has serious potential to be rather awesome. (Xenophobic blah blah blah. I’ll apologize on behalf of humanity when the little green men show up at my front door.)

LEGO Toy Fair 2011 - Alien Conquest - 7052 UFO Abduction - 1

Check out all of the different themes on FBTB.net.

Stormtrooper down

A picture is worth a thousand words, so I’ll let this one by Shobrick speak for itself.

Militarized X-wing

Zane Houston shows us what the X-wing might look like if it were a modern military craft. It features folding wings and landing gear. The builder states that there’s more militarized Star Wars ships in the making. Will we see a TIE fighter soon?

Is there a problem, commander?

You don’t need Jedi powers to sense that there’s been a disturbance in the force in Chris McVeigh‘s latest photo.
