More 2017 LEGO Star Wars Classic Trilogy sets revealed [News]

More high-quality 2017 LEGO news continues to emerge as we near the end of the year. Today’s reveals are all based on vehicles and events in the Classic Trilogy, and are expected to hit stores in January. While all of these are redesigns of previously released material, over this past year as I’ve gotten back into Star Wars LEGO, I’ve come to appreciate the significant improvements that LEGO designers have been making. And of course, each re-release or redesign gives a new generation of LEGO fans an opportunity to add a new vehicle to their collection.

The new 75175 A-Wing Starfighter appears not to be a mere recolor of the Rebels version of the A-wing in 75150 Vader’s TIE Advanced vs. A-wing Starfighter. It includes 358 pieces and three minifigs, including Lando Calrissian in his Rebel General outfit.

Battle on Rhen Var from Star Wars: Battlefront recreated with 250,000 LEGO bricks

The classic Star Wars video game Battlefront comes to life in this enormous diorama by Markus. Markus spent 10 months assembling 250,000 bricks and LEGO Star Wars minifigs into a diorama that measures 2.5 x 1.5 meters (8.2 x 5 feet). Unlike many of the all-white Hoth dioramas we’ve featured here over the years, the patchy snow results in a bit more texture against the underlying rock.

Korean Builder Kkaebok turned his LEGO set of Han Solo’s infamous space freighter into a radical guitar, with everything but the strings made of LEGO. Plus, the cockpit and interior light up for extra cool points. Let’s be honest: who doesn’t want a guitar made of a LEGO Millennium Falcon?

Grand Admiral Thrawn joins the LEGO Star Wars canon in 2017 [News]

One of the few frustrating things about the release of The Force Awakens last year was the fact that LucasFilm reset the long-established Star Wars timeline by eliminating much of the Expanded Universe from the official canon, leaving only the movies and recent animated TV series (Clone Wars and Rebels). Left by the wayside were some truly amazing stories and characters, not least of which the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn, with characters like Mara Jade and Grand Admiral Thrawn himself. Longtime Star Wars fans rejoiced recently when it was announced that Thrawn would be re-canonized by appearing in the upcoming season of Rebels.

With fantastic LEGO sets based on the series like 75150 Vader’s TIE Advanced vs. A-wing Starfighter taking up a significant proportion of the LEGO Star Wars product line now, a Grand Admiral Thrawn minifig couldn’t have been far behind, and that suspicion has been confirmed with another batch of sets revealed today, including 75170 The Phantom, with Thrawn, alongside Kanan Jarrus wearing a cool mask.

Star Wars: Rogue One opens in just 1 month, and there are plenty of LEGO sets to go along with it as the LEGO Star Wars line stays as strong as ever. In fact, many of the current Rogue One sets are already on sale! This new wave of sets should make its debut early next year (if not sooner), and includes some classic vehicles fans will recognize from the original trilogy, such as the Y-Wing Starfighter. “Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances.”

Don’t lie. We’ve all dreamed of owning a portrait of Grand Moff Tarkin made entirely out of levers. Well, now you can finally have one! Caleb I built this glorious piece of LEGO art for the annual Creations for Charity event over on Bricklink. The portrait also comes with Tarkin’s insignia bars, a kickstand frame, and a wall hanger. See for yourself how good it will look on your wall.

There’s a hole in your plan

This UCS-scale Buzz Droid is ready to sabotage thanks to its creator Takamichi Irie. Once it catches on to your ship, there’s no escape from its whirling saw and disruptive claws, unless you have a clever R2 droid to zap it in the eye. The technique for the hemisphere shells is spot on. Check out the work-in-progress shots to see the breakdown of the build.
