Check out this awesome mech clad in active camo armor by brick genius Cole Blaq. While Cole did use just a few modified parts in pursuit of a totally transparent machine, the build is chock full of unusual parts and clever techniques. Anyone who has ever attempted to build a complicated form using a severely limited palette will appreciate the level of skill it takes to pull off something recognizable, let alone this cool.

Every so often I come the realization that there are builders out there that get overlooked. And quite often I am the one doing the overlooking. Case in point being Magic Tuba Pixie.
I was browsing through his photostream while on my lunch break today and just generally admiring the builds. But it was then that I realized I had rarely commented or acknowledged them. These were all models that I had seen before, but I simply had not made an effort to voice my appreciation of them. So now I am making up for lost time and want to share a few of my favourites.

As a child my life revolved around Star Wars, however, for the last 10 or 15 years I have somewhat lost interest in the genre. I pick up the occasional Star Wars set from time to time, but mainly for parts. However, my oldest son recently received several Star Wars sets for his birthday and it somewhat rekindled my interest in the style. Now seeing all the brilliant starfighters being created for the Alphabet Fighter Contest being held over at FBTB has made me want to explore the style even more with some of my own builds.
One of my favourites that I have stumbled upon is this Incom I-Fighter by Lego Junkie. It just has that right look to it. I would not be surprised to see this swooshing along side an X-Wing or being used to bulls-eye womp rats. This makes me really want to play Rogue Squadron on the ol’ N64.

The Borg figure and bust built by Shawn Snyder aren’t about to inject nanoprobes into your bloodstream that turn you into a cyborg drone in their collective, but they definitely look the part.
I’m a sucker for floating cities/rocks/whatever, and this version of the Comet Empire from 80’s anime Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato is terrific. We’ve highlighted excellent versions of the Comet Empire previously, but I like how builder Jim Rhoades captures the bustling, urban feel in his version. The microscale Yamato is pretty awesome, too.
My fellow lug member Dene Quest (DJ Quest) has brought a fun twist to the current spate of Vic Vipers gracing our screens. He’s given it the ability to transform. Not content to merely build a Vic Viper version of a Macross Valkyrie, his transforms into a dinobot. The use of an oversized starfighter tail as a dinosaur tail has me tickled.
The Starfighter Telephone Game has been running for coming up on 4 years this March. With 4 rounds in the works, and a 5th in the planning stages there have been 48 fighters built by builders spread across the globe. The 48th fighter built is this glorious variant by Stijn (Red Spacecat). Typically as the game progresses the fighters get larger and larger. Stijn decided to try something different and started his team off with a rather large craft. The snails paced excitement of the game is always fun to watch, but seeing this fighter has got me really excited to see this round progress.
This ladies and gentlemen is a Vic Viper. Need I say more?
Well I suppose I should at least add that this masterpiece was built by Nate Decastro.

While I certainly gravitate toward castle myself, I can’t help but admire some of the gorgeous Vic Vipers popping up lately. A couple really caught my eye. Clearly I have a thing for blue.

Today, I came across two great micro scale creations. The first was this stealth missile boat built (virtually) by Evan Melick (Legoism). It really captures the look and feel of this type of sea-craft. In fact, it’s a style of ship that I’ve long wanted to build at minifig scale. It’s great to see that the shapes can be achieved in a manner pleasing to the eye.
Next up, is a lovely little space ship by Vaughan James (legovaughan). Just look at the angles! I love all the various small and compound angles come together to give a cohesive form, while lending the appearance of extra detail. It’s as if the power loader from Alien and a drop ship mated.
This year’s NnoVVember seems to have rolled in with more discussion and politics than most years…and let’s be honest there always tends to be a fair amount of that anyway. But when you boil it down, this month is all about having fun and building some spaceships. And this my friends is a sexy example. Pascal is well known for the minimalist artistic style he puts into his builds, and that is exactly why I appreciate his work so much. Pascal continuously proves that you do not need an incredibly complex creation and abundant parts to create something unique, well designed and interesting.
His epic photographic skills certainly helps as well.

I meant to blog this next model back when it debuted in September, but something shiny must have distracted me from the Titanfall R-101C Assault Rifle by our old associate Nick Jensen (Nick Brick). Working features include: removable magazine, moving trigger, sliding charging handle, flip-up iron sights and a detachable HCOG sight that lights up. The rifle is a replica of the one used in the video game Titanfall, and purists can breathe easy because even the sling has the lego logo, although the builder does not specify where it comes from.
