News: PicToBrick mosaic software now available

TBB received a message from LEGO Ambassador Juan Macias yesterday with a link to the Web site of a new LEGO mosaic tool, PicToBrick by Tobias Reichling and Adrian Schütz:

PicToBrick converts digital pictures to a format you can use to create mosaics. For LEGO fans, the software offers several cool features, including color and brick type selection.

To learn more about PicToBrick, read the full LUGNET announcement, or head on over to the English or German version of PicToBrick.de.

Tobias and Adrian are releasing PicToBrick under the Free Software Foundation’s GNU General Public License. In addition to executables that work on Windows, Mac, and Linux, they’re making the source code available. Since they’re releasing PicToBrick as “donation ware,” if you like PicToBrick, be sure to support Tobias and Adrian! :D

Dark Lord Mosaic by Chuybregts

Wow, I have been out of the loop for the last week or so. But now I’m back and ready to blog again! Anyway, while perusing Brickshelf, I noticed this incredible mosaic of Darth Vader and I had to share. So here it is!

Chuybregts’ nifty Vader mosaic:

What made this jump out at me was the fact that it jumps out at you! Done all on black, unlike most mosaics, Vader’s head appears slightly 3D. Very cool and “most impressive”.

Here’s the gallery if you want to see it, but there’s only the one pic.

Edit: Here are more pics of the Mosaic in progress! (thanks to sean mykael for the link!)

And here is a page of instructions that chuybregts made for this creation.

Ichiro Mosaic by JunLEGO

I was extremely pleased that Japan won the World Baseball Classic last week. Hurray! To honor this victory, Azumu presented several baseball-themed creations on LEGO-BINGO. Here’s my favorite — a mosaic of Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners, by Brickshelf user junlego:

I’m really looking forward to the beginning of the MLB season. I’m even taking Monday, April 3 off from work to go see opening day at Safeco Field. I haven’t missed an opening day for four or five years now. Go Japan, go! Go Mariners, go! Go Ichiro, go!
