Matt De Lanoy’s latest mosaic shows off the infamous flamethrower from Team Fortress 2 and his delightfully insane Pyrovision, where he lives in a world quite his own.

Superman Mosaic
Dave Ware (BrickWares) just posted this absolutely awesome Superman mosaic. All I can say is WOW!
…and I have to be honest, when I first saw the thumbnail pop up in my flickr contact feed this morning I didn’t click on it because I really didn’t think it was LEGO. Boy am I glad I clicked on it now!
Pinky & The Brain Mosaic + a Back to the Future bonus...Narf!
I recently finished these two mosaics and was able to display them at Emerald City Comic Con this last weekend. They are my first mosaics but won’t be my last, as they were much more fun than I was expecting. I guess there is something to be said for building outside your comfort zone, eh?
I was also able to meet Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche, the voice talent behind Pinky & The Brain, and get them to sign the mosaic. Unfortunately, Christopher Lloyd had to cancel or I would have snagged his autograph too. Oh well…you can’t win them all!
The Order of the Stick, Now Made in Brick!
Matt De Lanoy has made this wonderful mosaic of the protagonists from one of my favorite webcomics, The Order of the Stick. He’s portrayed the characters perfectly, even capturing a bit of the humor, with poor halfling Belkar being almost out of frame. Just seeing this mosaic makes me want to go read more OOTS. If you’re not familiar with The Order of the Stick, I highly recommend checking it out.

Lego “Birth of Venus” Mosaic
This incredible mosaic, by Arthur Gugick, depicts Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and it is gorgeous. Not only does it convey the beauty of the actual painting, but the colors achieved by overlaying the solid-colored plates with transparent ones gives it such an wonderful array of rich color tones. I have seen a lot of excellent mosaics and this has to be one of the best.
Another Masterpiece from the Mosaic Mama
Katie Walker is the undisputed ruler of the cheese slope. Give her a random pile of them and the odd handful of 1×1 plates, tiles or bricks and awesome things start to happen. You have to check out her latest. I keep thinking that she is going to run out of new techniques or ideas but it ain’t happening.
LEGO + Kaliedoscope = KaLEGOscope
I’m going to let this picture by Todd Wilder speak for itself. I need to go lay down because it’s making my head spin. If this could actually be built this way, I would need several of them. Too cool.
You can see the actual creation here. While it is cool, I think it is pretty wild how the kaleidoscope effect changes it so much.
You should check out his KaLEGOscope set. There are some other rather trippy things in there.
Time-lapse video of LEGO mosaic building at LEGOLAND
LEGOLAND California Master Model Maker Ryan Ziegelbauer built a mosaic of a Junior Model Maker contest winner, which he captured in this time-lapse video.
Now that you’ve watched it once, watch the video again for all the funny animations in the background, including an homage to a recent blastoff into space.
“Are you sure it isn’t time for a ‘colourful metaphor’?”
Something along the lines of “incredible”, “stunning” or “out-standing” may be in order. Rakanishu’s mosaic of Mr. Spock is a great homage to the Enterprise’s first mate and science officer. Can we describe a Lego creation as logical? I think we can.
MegaMan Mosaic
This mosaic, by Andy, is a real eye-catcher. I love the split view of MegaMan and the background gives it a great look.
Speak Friend and Enter
This gorgeous mosaic of Tolkien’s Doors of Durin is simply incredible. Karyn did a wonderful job of capturing the look and feel of the doors. On top of that, the whole thing is done with Modulex. As far as I can tell, this is only the second time we have highlighted a Modulex build here on The Brothers Brick (See the first one here).
The builder has also created a blog, called MiniBricks Madness, to highlight these lesser known siblings of the bricks we all know and love. For a history of Modulex, check out this article, “Saving Modulex” by Sly Owl.
Many thanks to Bruce for bringing this to our attention.
Beautiful, beautiful cheese floors
I’m consistently wowed by the geometric designs that Katie Walker fiddles with and frequently shares. It’s extra rewarding when she incorporates the results of her experiments into beautiful architecture like this grand staircase and mosaic floor.
