A team of German builders (Bruno Kurth, Tobias Reichling, Vanessa Graf, Tanja Kusserow-Kurth, and Torsten Scheer) created this gigantic 480X480 stud layout of a physical map of Europe. On top of that, they have added 44 microscale landmarks, two of which are for sale on Creations for Charity. This feat is accomplished with more than 53,500 bricks over half a year.

The name makes me think of the Oort Cloud at the edge of the solar system, which in turn makes me think of the Dragon Riders of Pern. More relevantly, this cool ship by JON1138 made a big impression at BrickCon earlier this month.
It’s one of several big space ships build primarily with dark blue lately. It’s making the big dark blue ship I’ve had in the works for the last year feel less special. Regardless, there’s a lot to like about this ship, and I’m especially fond of the trilateral symmetry. It is also fairly refreshing to see a micro scale creation of this size, as most builders choose to chase the minifig.
It’s been a while since I remember seeing (apparently my memory is poor, there’s one two or three posts back) a microscale spaceship here so I’m glad Chris Boen (mos_doomsday) has provided such a nice one. The Cervina is a beauty with a great livery and effective use of stickers.
I spent four days under the shadow of Robin Sather’s 1:1 scale torii gate at BrickCon last weekend, so it was lovely to see this equally impressive-but much smaller- version of Miyajima Torii by Matija Grguric.
Rod Gillies‘ entry to Classic-Castle’s Mini Castle Contest is simply fantastic. The techniques he uses are wonderful–the Exoforce hair as a deciduous, Technic pins as crops. But what REALLY catches my eye is the mini tudors. They just…work.
Michal Herbolt’s (gearcs) Tower of Babel is based on the ziggurat design. While the construction techniques are fairly standard, the scale is grand and imposing. Note the tiny staircases made using grill bricks.
Sam W. (-infomaniac-) answers that question with a brick rendition of the folding city from Inception. He built the model in three scales to achieve three levels of forced perspective. It’s like the dream in a dream thing but with Lego, yea.
Really good Micro-scale is hard to do, but Crises_crs did it. I love the dragon and the Bionicle baseplate fits perfectly.
Jon Walker posted pictures of his SHIP that won Best in Space and People’s Choice awards at BrickCon 2009. I love the unique donut-shaped cargo containers. The lack of gaps between the wedges reflects the perfect technique that Jon used to create these shapes. The sand green spine adds a hint of color and the inclusion of two microscale escort fighters completes the setup.
I have no idea what the name means, but that doesn’t make this ship any less awesome. Robb (Dasnewten) has graced us all with another fantastic creation.
It crams in myriad angles, as well as nooks and crannies. There’s also some great surface detailing mixed in, not too much, and not too little. The overall effect is quite believable as a functional space craft.
Tsang Yiu Keung (chiukeung) built a microscale replica of the China Pavilion that dominates Expo 2010. I’ve been wanting to build this structure since visiting the expo earlier this month, but there’s no need now. It even has lights.
