Some say “Go big or go home!” but it takes real talent to compress something down to just a few studs and still keep it recognizable. Of course, many of the micro models we feature here aren’t so small after all, whether it’s a vast cityscape or starship.

Monument to the Hurricane Liger

I don’t know what the Hurricane Liger is, or why it deserves a monument, but I’m glad Cade Roster (Apocalust) gave it one.

A Few Mini Ports

Here’s a trio of excellent microscale creations by flickr user Commander Hawk. He’s nailed the art of using just enough detail to evoke the shape. Be sure to check out his photostream, too, as it’s full of other great microscale stuff.

More Awesome Lego Vehicles from The Dark Knight Rises by Tiler

Flickr user Tiler has recently been working through creating various vehicles from The Dark Knight Rises in Lego form. We featured his Tumbler models not long ago, but he’s been hard at work since then adding to the roster. Although we’ve seen many fantastic versions of Batman’s vehicles over the years, but what grabbed me about Tiler’s creations is that they’re in a much smaller scale than most of what we see, without lacking in detail. His latest vehicle is Bane’s truck, which is an awesome monstrosity, and Tiler has perfectly captured the extreme industrial-military look of it. Be sure to also check out his Batbike (below) and terrific Bat.

The simpler things in life.

Sometimes all you need are a small number of pieces to create something wonderful. That is exactly what Brickshelf user Jetboy (badjoy) did with this Black Temple. The use of the technic tread links to form the columns of the Greek style temple is ingenious!

EDIT:
You can also find more on his Flickr account.

Big thanks to Titolian for pointing this out to me.

LEGO Argonath guards the borders of Gondor

Noah McClung (Glory_Forever) tackles one of the most awe-inspiring scenes from The Lord of the Rings, when the Fellowship passes beneath the gaze of the Argonath, or the Pillars of the Kings, into the much-diminished lands of Gondor.

Anarion

The smooth statue stands in contrast to the rough-and-tumble rocks of the cliff. Here’s hoping Noah adds Isildur’s statue on the other side of the river Anduin, joining Anárion to face down Gondor’s northern enemies.

Well would you look at that...

Mike Yoder (M.R. Yoder) has always been one to typically keep us up to date with progress shots of his builds. Case in point, his City Ruins project that Andrew had featured a week or so back. Well Mike pulled a fast one on all of us when he posted his VogStar this past Monday. That ship was quite frankly brilliant in more ways than one and came out of nowhere. But now he totally upped the ante with this Chinese Imperial Flagship which is built on the same general hull frame. The mixing of reds & oranges works so wonderfully well.

Chinese Imperial Flagship 003

This is a fantastic addition to his Chinese Imperial Navy, again previously featured by Andrew.

With both this and the VogStar, the aft section in particular is designed exceedingly well!!

Tiny rocket blasts off into space

Somehow, iridescent nohow manages to build a massive-looking rocket from (as far as I can tell) only nine or ten pieces. With gold such a key color in many spacecraft, particularly ingenious is the inverted rocket stage and fiery blast, connected by — you guessed it — the One Ring to Rule Them All:

The rest of this talented builder’s photostream is also well worth a lengthy perusal. Check out this Seussian landscape from The Lorax:

Mini LEGO Tumbler from Batman

We’ve seen some great LEGO Tumblers here on TBB over the years, but this mini version by Tiler just might be my favorite.

Mini LEGO Batman Tumbler

With a great economy of parts and lighting to enhance the angles (black LEGO is especially tough to photograph), Tiler pulls it off wonderfully. He’s also built a batch of great camo versions:

Bell Boeing V-44 Pelican

Mike isn’t the only one building great micro-military aircraft lately.

Stijn (Red Spacecat) posted this near-future VTOL/STOL tiltrotor aircraft on the 4th of July. Stijn’s design is very clearly a future progression of the V-22 Osprey, extended for mission profiles with far heavier cargo.

The custom sticker work is sublime, and the little touches like landing wheels are excellent. Check out lots more photos on Flickr.

Air raid over Canal Street

Mike Yoder built some excellent micro-planes a little while back, and then began building some structures to use as a backdrop for them. The two come together beautifully in this scene.

Microscale Sci-Fi (Mi-Fi) contest winners announced

I feel truly awful that I never got around to featuring more than a handful of the wonderful microscale models from the recent Mi-Fi contest run by The Living Brick. (Can you ever forgive me, Iain?) Anyway, Iain and Rod have announced the winners!

nolnet‘s “1.21 Gigawatts” and halfbeak‘s “Resistance is Futile” deservedly took the top spots.

1.21 Gigawatts Resistance Is Futile

SPARKART! submitted two great entries, inspired by The Matrix and Bladerunner.

Welcome...to the real world. Los Angeles November 2019

Carl Merriam also entered two great micro-models, from Spaceballs and “Futurama”.

Check out the group pool for a stellar lineup of entries, and read Iain’s writeup, highlighting even more of the great entries. Congratulations to the winners, and here’s hoping Iain runs this contest annually!

Griphook CT-15 carrier by Lazer Blade

Kyle Collard (Lazer Blade) has been working on an interesting space carrier for several weeks, and just completed it yesterday. It’s got a color scheme near to my heart, with an overall structure reminiscent of some of Pierre‘s best work. But Kyle adds a combination of angles, curves, and greebling all his own for a spectacular result.

Griphook CT-15

The brick-built lettering wonderfully captures a military-industrial aesthetic, and every exposed stud looks intentional.
