Modular Market Street gets a marvelous Art Nouveau makeover

10190 Market Street is the black sheep of LEGO modulars. Part of the pre-Ideas “Factory” line, the set lacked the innovative techniques and attention to detail of its predecessor, Cafe Corner, and subsequent modulars, but it’s a significant part of LEGO’s evolving relationship with fan creations. Marcin Dski revisits the 18-year-old set with an update that reflects the colors and intent of the original while bringing in the advanced techniques of newer modulars like 10350 Tudor Corner. Marcin leans on Art Nouveau as an architectural influence, using arches and SNOT techniques for the round entrances. The market gets an impressive upgrade with added glass paneling replacing the original open air. Even the minifigs mix sees a glow up, including a fellow with a peg leg and hook who might have wandered in from one of Marcin’s other modulars.

Sowing seeds for the season

As February rounds to an end, many of us gardeners in the northern hemisphere are looking fondly at the melting snow in our yards. Builder brickdesigned reminds us of the future fruits of our green thumbs’ labor with these Farmers Market-themed builds. These clever, quaint designs are delicate reproductions of the crates and canopies common amongst weekly markets. Each has its own distinct character with creative coloration, prints, and usefully minifigure accessories. The produce stand is full of fruits and veggies held in their own clever little bins. The angle on that canopy is deceptively simple, just like the crates.

Medieval skyscrapers are the way to go

Ever wondered what a castle-themed version of Ninjago City would look like? Wonder no more, and just take a closer look at this creation by Tobias Goldschalt. The buildings are larger than life and the Tudor-style homes look very nicely done. Mixing tan and dark tan parts into the white plastered areas really helps with the weathered look. If you look closer, you’ll notice that almost every roof uses a different technique — from straight tiles to pentagonal tiles, from cheese slopes to curved slopes. Variations like this always help keep you, as a viewer, captivated. Every time your eyes zoom across this creation you’ll notice something new. The stone walls are made with two techniques — in some places, the masonry brick gets used, but in others Tobias uses bricks with studs on the sides covered with tiles.
