In the meantime, attendees have begun uploading photos of displays and events.

Bill Ward already has 160+ photos online, while Mark Neumann and PurirideVry have uploaded quite a few as well.

The BrickFest pool is also getting refreshed with this year’s photos, so be sure to check it out — and add your photos if you haven’t!

LEGO Star Wars 10195 Republic Dropship, Home One, LEGO + Pixar, and more revealed at Toy Fair 2009 [News]

LEGO TauntaunThe Brothers Brick got an invite to the LEGO Preview at Toy Fair 2009, but we just couldn’t make it. :-( The good news is that our pals from FBTB and BrickJournal are covering this important event.

Although we’ve seen quite a few of the late 2009 LEGO sets from the earlier Canadian toy fair, there are still some surprises in store for LEGO fans.

The big news — particularly among LEGO Star Wars fans — seems to be the announcement of 10195 Republic Dropship with AT-OT Walker, here being shown off by Erik Varzegi:

Other major LEGO Star Wars news includes a playset of Admiral Ackbar’s Home One (the result of fan voting back in May 2008), with these minifigs:

Personally, I’m most excited about the new Space Police sets, including 5971 Gold Heist:

In other news, LEGO and Disney have announced a deal to release LEGO sets based on three Disney movies: Toy Story, Cars, and Prince of Persia. (What, no LEGO Wall-E?)

Check out more photos from Ace Kim, Mike Crowley, and Joe Meno.

There are a lot of photos to go through, so let us know if you see something particularly cool we should highlight.

GFLUG will be displaying various LEGO creations in Orlando, Florida from February 27 to March 1.

Here’s the full announcement from Michael Huffman:

GFLUG will be doing MegaCon 2009, Feb. 27 – March 1, 2009 in Orlando, FL. GFLUG have a 50’x50’ display area, half of the area will be a LEGO MOC display and the other half of it will be an adult “play area”. The theme for MegaCon 2009 is “WestWorld”. There will be a city filled with rampaging monsters, super-heroes
fighting super-villains, & hungry zombies; a large scale east vs. west castle MOC battle scene; a futuristic space port; and robots shooting it out at the 64K corral; with other homages to the club’s favorite sci-fi/anime/geek shows! There will also be table-top games recreated in LEGO — KK Quah will have a LEGO-ize version of Command and Colors (by Richard Borg and GMT Games). This will be GFLUG’s first time displaying at MegaCon.

MegaCon is a spring-time event, so it’d make a nice spring break get-away!

Announcing the Job Mullers Contest [News]

Aliencat and Bluesecrets are hosting a brand-new contest over at Classic Castle.

Born in a frenzy of whimsy and late-night chatting, the Job Muller’s Contest is something unique. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is build a fictional medieval occupation, the funnier the better. I think I’m going to be entering this one….

ChiefLUG Battlestar Galactica Viper Fly-In at BrickCon 2008

It was recently brought to my attention that we missed covering a major collaborative display at BrickCon last October. This was a major oversight on our part as this display was incredible. In fact, I think it was one of the best collaborative displays I’ve seen.

Ryan Wood, founder and namesake of ChiefLUG, organized the first ever BSG Viper fly-in. Ryan, Mark Sandlin, and Andrew Lee built 13 foot of hanger bay, which was filled to overflowing. So much so that there were Vipers covering all the tables around. The final count was 35 Vipers and other Battlestar Galactica-inspired craft. It was most impressive! I saw every imaginable Viper on display, from pink Pardisa-inspired to Black Fantasy-infected. I was amazed at the amount of time and effort Ryan and the ChiefLUGers put in to this. Needless to say, it spawned a huge bandwagon of Vipers online! You can check some of them in this post, by clicking on the pictures, or you can see the whole fleet in the ChiefLUG Flickr Group.

Way to go, ChiefLUG!
