Tag Archives: Dioramas

There’s nothing like a massive LEGO diorama to prove that you’ve arrived as a LEGO builder. The LEGO dioramas we feature here span everything from realistic medieval castles to scenes from World War II, and more than a few post-apocalyptic wastelands.

Tower Rock by Darkspawn

Aaron Andrews (Darkspawn) has returned to building a massive castle creation after an almost yearlong respite. This tower sits on one of the most massive floating rocks I’ve seen, inhabited by a group of magical figures. One of my favorite details is the dragon transport; I could only dream of riding one of those.

Kelvin’s Hotel

I woke up this morning to this lovely hotel by Kris Kelvin. Its a beautiful scene and I really like those cars!

They be sleeping with the fishes

Brickshelf user B-idea crafts an artistic diorama depicting the forced perspective sinking of a pirate ship. The foreground features the dynamic action of the sinking ship in minifig scale while the background floats a micro-scale rendition of an imperial flagship.

Birdwatching with SlyOwl

SlyOwl has created several new species of LEGO birds and showcased them in this little scene:

The waterfowl being observed by the birdwatchers range from tall and gangly to short and adorably squat.

No less awesome is this great LEGO Pirates scene, titled “Tribal Sacrifice”:

The pirates’ boat sunk into the sand and water is a brilliant detail.

Château de Caprèshèr

Not all good LEGO Castle landscaping has to be tall (for lack of a better word), as JD Luse demonstrates with a detailed landscape built on a baseplate:

The narrow trees add variety, while an Orient Expedition hat serves as a bird’s nest on the large tree.

Rack911’s Sunset Castle reposes in glorious ruin

This gorgeous ruined castle by Haung showed up on Brickshelf‘s “Recent” page a couple days ago, so even though he posted it to MOCpages back in January, it’s definitely worth a blog now.

A colossal statue stands guard over the entrance to a fully detailed interior:

Sebastian Arts’ Reality Dysfunction will eat your city

Run and hide your Cafe Corner, Market Street and Green Grocer!  This creepy creation built by Sebastian “Aliencat” Arts will consume all!

Side note: haha, take that Nannan, I finally blogged a Black Fantasy creation before you!

Elm Castle lurks deep in gearcs’s woods

Elm castle

The Forestmen were always the “good guys” for me back in the 1980’s, allies of the Crusaders against the Black Falcons. I’m not sure how gearcs feels about that alliance, but “Elm Castle” — the seat of a knight named Sir Roland — includes excellent examples of half-timber LEGO construction integrated into the grey stone, along with complete landscaping and a full interior.

Check out more pictures of Elm Castle on Brickshelf, along with many other LEGO Castle creations in gearcs’s Brickshelf gallery.

LEGO Zombie Contest reveals theater infested with brain-hungry minifigs

The Big Toy Hut’s LEGO Zombie Contest includes some great entries so far, like this scene in a movie theater by Gettobread:

LEGO zombies in a movie theater

The theater itself includes excellent details, from Bruce Lee smashing through a wall to Snake Plisskin looking ready to escape New York.

Check out the rest of the entries on Flickr. If you want to enter yourself, there’s not much time left — you have until April 21 to build and post a completely new LEGO zombie creation.

Is it too early to mention Zombie Apocafest 2009 yet?

The future is aqua

Futuristic LEGO city by T brick

Drawing inspiration from the graphic novel Cyann, t-brick has built a beautiful futuristic city diorama. It also reminds me of Silverberg cover art. The use of colour and repeated motifs is spot on and gives the diorama a wonderful consistent overall feel.

It also gets bonus points for letting me use lots of different theme tags.

Sir Nadroj invents teleportation

Jordan Schwartz (Sir Nadroj) has been working on a project to create the visual lighting and effects of a teleporter. The setup includes lights from LifeLites and a fog machine. These two components creates an out of this world ambience in the final display of the creation.

Legohaulic builds the West

Tyler Clites (Legohaulic) builds a large diorama of a western town, complete with all the iconic buildings including a saloon, the sheriff’s office, bank, stable and general store. These buildings are among the best western structures I’ve seen. Check out the full gallery on Brickshelf for more.
