Skids up on the Colonial Viper Mk VII

Here at The Brothers Brick, we give a lot of love to Star Wars LEGO creations and sets. But when the likes of David Duperron comes around with a new Battlestar Galactica creation, we surely take notice. David is a master at building highly detailed UCS (Ultimate Collector’s Series) ships as evidenced by this Colonial Viper Mk VII. The Mk VII contains an additional laser cannon at the dorsal fin, a darker color palette, and is sleeker than the Mk II. Be sure to check out David’s Mk II for comparison. In this version System and Technic bricks are integrated seamlessly to give the Viper its signature shape.

The UCS Battlestar Galactica Viper MkII is fraking sweet!

If you’re going to be holed up at home for a while, let Davdup’s awesome LEGO Viper MkII render be a reminder that you can rewatch Battlestar Galactica. It’s a great show that drops frak-bombs like it’s nothing. The censors haven’t caught on to it yet so you too can let it fly like a six-year-old at a slumber party. Frakity-frak-frak! See, doesn’t that feel great? I am just fraking enamored over rendering the complex curves achieved with curved slopes of all different sizes. The dark red stripe along the wings and tailfin are spot-on. The tank treads around the afterburners are inspired but the shaping around the nose is my favorite part.

It seems Davdup is quite keen on sci-fi pop culture. He reminds us that, in these difficult times, you can also rewatch The Fifth Element and Blade Runner. Or adversely, if you’re more of a doer than a loafer, then you can build your own fraking thing and maybe we’ll feature it.

Yes, she knows it’s a multipass. Anyway, we’re in love.

When you’re having a bad day, sometimes it’s nice to just sit down and watch a fun science fiction movie like The Fifth Element. There are great characters, an engaging story, and a universe that is willing to give us flying cars. Davdup brings that love of the vehicles into LEGO form with renditions of a police cruiser and Korben Dallas’ taxi. Slightly bigger than minifgure scale, these beauties feature smooth curves, complex angles, custom stickers, and build details straight from the movie.

The police car is a solid build (I love the grille tiles in the window) that accurately captures the utilitarian vehicle. Davdup has chosen to also include a window-delivered to-go order from McDonald’s, giving us a great callback to the movie. The interior is also pretty sweet, using a Technic pilot’s yoke for the steering wheel. Continue reading

Bladerunner spinner scours the skies for skinjobs

One of the most interesting concepts to emerge in Ridley Scott’s noir-style dystopic Bladerunner would have to be the police hovercar, also known as a spinner, which we first see descending through the rain on clouds of steam. Meticulously re-created by Davdup at larger than mini-fig scale. Aside from the most excellent sculpting of this unique profile, the inclusion of several custom stickers perfectly captures the details of its onscreen inspiration. The only thing that could improve the overall effect would be some white steam clouds.

And just in case you are wondering if it also drives on the ground, the answer is yes. Both of the doors open as well.
