Tag Archives: Bionicle

Bionicle was a line of sets that grew out of the LEGO Technic line that LEGO produced between 2001 and 2010, succeeded by Hero Factory. Bionicle had an incredibly complex storyline that accompanied the sets, and most of the elements didn’t integrate well with traditional SYSTEM bricks. As a result, long-time adult fans like the contributors here on The Brothers Brick never quite appreciated what Bionicle had to offer, so most of the LEGO models we feature here on The Brothers Brick are built from traditional SYSTEM bricks. Nevertheless, we do appreciate a great Bionicle creation from time to time.

Nuhvok-Kal

I think we’re past being amazed that Bionicle builders do some cool stuff, but as a SYSTEM builder, I just don’t have the vocabulary to discuss Bionicle intelligently. Maybe learning the lingo is Step 2 in my 12-step acceptance of Bionicle…

Regardless of my inability to say anything relevant about it, I think this tank thingy by Cameron (Primus) is very cool.

And since we missed it a couple of months ago, here’s Eddie.

Ean’s titanic Titanus looms over lesser Bionicle creations

BioniBlogger Ean H. (Arpy) is a talented Bionicle builder himself.

Bionicle Titanus by Arpy

The large wheels from LEGO Power Miners vehicles on Titanus’ forearms give a sense of how huge this mecha is. See more on Brickshelf.

And, yeah, this creeped me out

This creature by Harry44 was not something I needed to see in the early hours of the morning. Is this supposed to by Ronald McDonald? Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, its kind of scary…

I’m afraid to go out to my car…I’ll have to wait until the sun comes up now.

XR79 Biomechanoid

We don’t blog enough Bionicle creations, but that doesn’t mean that good ones aren’t out there. Check out this robotic horror by JP-54 for the BBC #53 contest. The creation exploits the diversity and biomechanical form of Bionicle pieces to create the perfect texture for a terror-inspiring monster.

Nightmarish spacecrafts of the Hellionic Conclave

Justin Vaughn (Mainman) has been using Bionicle parts from 8978 Skrall to create this novelty space faction called the Hellionic Conclave. The primary features of these diabolical creations highlight the interesting shapes of Bionicle elements mixed with the standard System bricks.

Bigg’s Pohatu dives underwater

Patrick Biggs (Kopakashau) combined Bionicle elements with System parts to make this striking Toa variation of Pohatu. I just love the flexibility on this and most Bionicle based creations. Of course, the cool weapon choice makes the creation complete.

The Zipper’s Zu-Rama Elite gives me the heebie jeebies

BZPower member The Zipper recently posted this “hornet-like creature” that you probably wouldn’t meet in your great aunt’s garden — not that you’d want to!

The Zipper’s design also gives her creature a look akin to a Zerg Mutalisk — another nasty beast whose acquaintance you’d best avoid.

Thanks for the link, Joey!

Nabii’s ornithopter flits and flies

Mark Stafford (Nabii) is a master at incorporating LEGO SYSTEM and Bionicle elements into his creations. While the wings on his Flitterfly ornithopter are Bionicle, the cockpit and fuselage are almost entirely SYSTEM.

I’m particularly keen on the radial engine and the Viking tiles on the tail.

Your entire life has been a mathematical error

I promise, we are not in fact contractually obligated to blog all Portal or Valve-inspired LEGO creations. But this Spontaneous Portal Generator Prototype II (aka Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device) by Neaku (also on Flickr) definitely caught my eye:

Don’t pick the flowers

This is the second time this weekend that we’ve shown flowers leading to deadly consesequences. Look at what Megan Rothrock has created – an overly abundant pink diorama with an insect decapitating a poor space explorer who picked the wrong flower. Lesson learned, don’t pick flowers.

Glutton by Huxhold

This is a rather old one, by Kevin Huxhold. I’ve never seen it before so I’m blogging it! Why? Because I can! And it’s really cool….

Scared of spiders? I thought so...

Kidthor has concocted a smooth blend of System and Bionicle. It’s rather scary too….
