Builder Patrick Biggs (DViddy) says this was is meant to be a representation of a fellow fan, but whatever it is, it’s pretty awesome. The blue and yellow make a snappy color scheme, and I love the integration of System and Bionicle elements in a nearly seamless fashion.
TBB fixture Mike Nieves (retinence) returns to the Brothership with a commissioned piece he calls “Ninjago Golden Dragon“. The model is a true fusion of Hero Factory, Bionicle, System and Technic parts that is amplified by a striking gold color scheme which the builder aptly describes as “tough to use”. Although this photo doesn’t provide the best angle to observe them, the details on the sides of the legs are amazing. Mike is one of those rare builders who combines talent, consistency and an ability to maintain an easily recognizable style of building without repeating himself. It’s nice to see builders like Mike and Tyler (just to name a few) getting commissioned work, there is nothing like getting paid to do something you you have a passion for.
This Bionicle bug by Monsterbrick is as terrifying picture of what will haunt the ruins of humanity after the apocalypse. This build is a perfect example of how much can be accomplished with just a few pieces–I doubt there are more than 35 pieces in this model, yet it’s strikingly well crafted.
For years I’ve marveled that so many people discount Bionicle and Hero Factory as worthless to adult builders. There are many, many fantastic examples that prove otherwise, and this stunning she-devil by Eero Okkonen (Pate-keetongu) is just the latest example of great ingenuity and creativity being displayed without using many traditional stud-and-tube bricks. The rubber bands forming the ties on the bodice, and the Bionicle chains forming the skirt are both phenomenal parts usages.
I saw this creation by Mike Nieves (retinence) at BrickFair, and was blown away. The first thing that caught my eye was the paw smashing into the base, it really adds motion to the sculpture. Then I realized that the entire Pokemon (tiger?) was balanced on one paw! Incredibly, this creation was overlooked for nomination for Best Bionicle, but celebrity judge Ed Diment made sure this was recognized in the mecha category.
Vlad Lisin ([Rhymes_Shelter]) checks in for the second week in a row with a dinotastic Bionicle creation he calls The Imp King, that looks like a creature ripped from a Guillermo del Toro movie. I can always count on Vlad for just the right background to complement the model.
It’s a little slow this weekend, constant reader, you must have other things to do than sequester yourself with our favorite toy. Don’t be afraid to call in on the ‘long distance dedication line’ if you have a contemporary tune you’d like to hear, I’ll take the 7th caller…
This bulky-looking Bionicle robot by BioRays has a striking pose, and the gold accents are a nice touch on top of the black and metal chassis.
The doctor is in, constant reader and he’s ready to hear your myriad of problems dating back to childhood. Hankyung Ryu (uhank) is the responsible party for this out of left field Bionicle creation which he calls Witchdocter-bot. The righteous headgear drew me in, but I stayed for the fine details like the ribcage and fancy accessories.
Since sharing is caring and the Bionicle Tribe is notorious for their strong bonds of friendship and consumption of Mountain Dew, I’m going to sneak in one more non-System model. The builder is Belarus native Vlad Lisin ([Rhymes_Shelter]), whose work has graced the pages of TBB in the past. Enjoy G’Loona, part of your Sunday serving of Bionicle…which is totally not dead.
Aliens meets Bionicle in the latest cool creation by Kyle Peckham called Cervatus and his Power Loader. Built for the annual Bio Cup competition on MOCpages, the exosuit is designed to accommodate a 10 inch tall Bionicle figure while being fully poseable and removable from the character itself. The competition is bringing out the best of the Bionicle tribe, so check out the other entries if you have the time an inclination.
Nick V. puts useless parts to good use in this creative build of an ice warrior. It features parts that most of us wouldn’t dare to touch such as Galidor, the knights action figure helmets, and even a basketball hoop.
I can’t remember the last time I blogged a Bionicle figure, but this one by Lord Oblivion stood out to me for two reasons. The head design is an ingenious combination of two halves of the spiked ball piece, complemented by a set of smoothly flowing body armor.
