Tag Archives: Bionicle

Bionicle was a line of sets that grew out of the LEGO Technic line that LEGO produced between 2001 and 2010, succeeded by Hero Factory. Bionicle had an incredibly complex storyline that accompanied the sets, and most of the elements didn’t integrate well with traditional SYSTEM bricks. As a result, long-time adult fans like the contributors here on The Brothers Brick never quite appreciated what Bionicle had to offer, so most of the LEGO models we feature here on The Brothers Brick are built from traditional SYSTEM bricks. Nevertheless, we do appreciate a great Bionicle creation from time to time.

King Fuzzwuzzle III will see you now

All hail His Hirsute Majesty Fuzzwuzzle the Third, Sovereign of the Fuzzlands, Ruler of the Furrywoollies, Emperor of the Hairy Isles, Grand Duke of the Downy Downs and Viscount of the Velvet Valley! Bow beneath the majesty of his beard and mustachios.

Gobbs the Brutalizer isn’t here to be your friend

Djordje found this fellow lurking down in the dungeons and I think that is where he should stay. He really looks like he has earned his nickname but I really like the choice of colors on this character. The black clothes make the orange skin really stand out and the purple mohawk makes for a nice splash of color. The construction of the face on this guy is rather special as well. The tooth/claw pieces as detail bits around the eyes give this creature some real character.

Mr. Shnoz goes for a drive

Djokson has really become a master of facial expression and his latest build is no exception. The look of contentment really showcases the love between a “thing” and his car. Talking about the car…there are some lovely details there as well. Besides being built out of a huge Bionicle head, the flow of the undercarriage detailing is really very nice.

Hysleria – a wicked display of texture

This evil warrior, by Mitch (Gamma-Raay), is loaded with all sorts of incredible detail and textures. The builder did an excellent job of seamlessly integrating a variety of parts into a cohesive whole. The finished effect is an incredible piece of art.

Nagas the Basilisk

Mike Nieves is rocking the bionicle with this build. The colors really pop, especially that red pinstripe down the tail, and the sculpting on the legs really gives it a powerful looking stance.

Alina the Steampunk

Eero Okkonen (Pate-keetongu) built her and she is something special. We’ve seen quite a few wonderful figures similar to this one but the face puts her over the top. I have to say that the use of ‘batarangs’ was truly inspired!

Demon of the abyss

Bionicle and Hero Factory has produced a lot of cool parts over the years, and it’s amazing to see what creative builders like Djordje can do by combining these unique elements into flawless shapes. Check out the custom-built head for a prime example of his design ingenuity.

LEGO unveils new line of BIONICLE sets for 2015 [News]

BIONICLE is back! At New York City Comic Con last week, LEGO unveiled detailed information and images for a new line of BIONICLE sets. The sets will be available globally from January 1, 2015 and revolve around an entirely new storyline. Prices will range from USD $9.99 – USD $19.99.

“We are thrilled to announce the relaunch of the LEGO BIONICLE franchise, which was one of our most popular LEGO franchises and our first ‘constraction’ or constructible action figure line.” said Michael McNally, Senior Director of Brand Relations. “We are eager to introduce and immerse a new generation of children in this rich character-driven world and can’t wait for fans of all ages to interact with the new story.”

The January line-up consists of six “Master” sets, and six “Protector” sets, each based around the elements of Fire, Earth, Water, Stone, Jungle and Ice. There is also a thirteenth set called the Lord of Skull Spiders. You can find photos and set details up on our Flickr stream, so go check ’em out now!

Can the Toa save Okoto from the latest threat?

The new storyline takes place on the mythical island of Okoto, where the forces of darkness are on the move, and the evil Makuta is once again materializing. Makuta is overcome by the desire for the three mythic masks that will cast the world into darkness: the Mask of Creation, the Mask of Control, and the Mask of Ultimate Power.

The desperate island inhabitants enlist six heroes called the Toa – each masters of a sacred element – to help save their beloved island. The Toa must embark on a quest for Okoto’s ancient power masks, that will allow them to unlock the full potential of their elemental powers. Only when the heroes are united, will they be able to battle the forces of evil, defeat Makuta, and save Okoto.

Oobahni Flaxpants

A year ago Nick V. (Brickthing) posted an interesting tribal shaman figure. Now he’s done it again using some new parts that were released recently. The color selection and parts use are things I can’t take my eyes off of.

Silver Blade Assassin

Bionicle sculptures seem organic in a way that System simply can’t mimic. Of course, this is because the Bionicle system of pieces was designed to create organic models, but it also means that in the hands of a skilled builder, it excels at rendering smoothly curving forms. This awesome Silver Blade figure by Moko is one such fine example.

Bionicle Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy

While Tyler and Bruce’s Guardians of the Galaxy builds were pretty great, I think I would be remiss not to share this great take of Peter Quill by Micah Berkoff (Arkov):

Peter Quill: Star-Lord

Doubly impressive is the seamless integration of Bionoicle pieces and regular LEGO blocks.

Peter Quill: Star-LordNow I think I should go see the movie and see what all the fuss is about.

Zaldrīzes rises

It’s time for some awesome Bionicle. Behold the great green dragon Zaldrīzes by Mitch (Gamma-Raay). He looks like he’s about to leap up into the air and swoop off with a roar.

Zaldrīzes 02

I like the rear shot above because it showcases the dragon’s white spine, the Ninjago sails, and the sawtoothed tail so well, but the front view of Zaldrīzes is no less formidable. The light blue fringe on the skull also ties in beautifully with the tip of the dragon’s tail.

Zaldrīzes

While we’re at it, Mitch also proves that you can build a pretty awesome spaceship from Bionicle, too! Annapurna is from last year’s SHIPtember (which I’m sure we’ll be hearing about quite a lot over the next couple of months).
