About Gambort

I'm a builder with a short attention span and a lot of virtual bricks. I'm probably most known as a train builder and was involved in the creation of LEGO set 10183 but I do a lot of other stuff too. I'm also a member of the LDraw SteerCo and a webmaster for the site.

Great Great Ball Contraption

Freelance Technic blogger, Peer Kreuger (mahjqa) sends us this beauty. I agree!

While most great ball contraptions are the result of a collaboration between many people, mechanical mastermind Akiyuki has been so busy building GBC modules that he made a damn impressive lineup all on his own. The intricate modules have an almost hypnotic quality to them.

Monument to the Hurricane Liger

Monument to the Hurricane Liger

I don’t know what the Hurricane Liger is, or why it deserves a monument, but I’m glad Cade Roster (Apocalust) gave it one.

Waggly waggly fishy fish

Fish

Tyler Clites (Legohaulic) has been fairly quiet lately (relatively speaking) so I was happy to notice this unusual fish sculpture in my photostream. I was then very excited to notice that it waggles. Too cool.

Gare de Rochefort in bricky glory

Train Station

I’ve been somewhat less than diligent in my checking of Brickshelf lately, so I count myself very fortunate I caught the Eurobricks thread for this wonderful train station. Unlike art deco, which is lends itself nicely to LEGO bricks, the art nouveau style of Rochefort’s main station is quite a challenge to represent in LEGO. But Domino39 has pulled it off with aplomb. Beautiful work. See especially the droid hands making up the front canopy.

Recognising the Re-Gogg E

As you may (or may not!) have noticed I’ve been on something of a hiatus lately thanks to IRL business and busyness. But sometimes there are things that force me to post. Like this awesome Gundam universe inspired, Z-Gog-E influenced mecha by FateHeart. I think the fingers could do with a little bit of work but the rest of RSu-02e Re-Gogg E is a layered and angled beauty.

Fencing

Breaking my break again. This time because of an amazing broken fence by Maciej Drwiega.

LEGO Step Sequencer

I’m on a bit of a blogging hiatus lately thanks to a massive work overload, but when Moritz Nolting (nolnet) linked me to this LEGO tenori-on I absolutely had to break my break and share it. Some help to make your own can be found here.

“We have an amazing Brick Expo planned for this year, and are so excited to be able to share the fun and creativity of LEGO with the community, as well as raise money to help kids in need at the Canberra Hospital,” said David Boddy, President of Brick Expo.

Changes have been made to the 2012 event. “After such an overwhelming response in 2011, we have decided to sell tickets online in timed sessions” said Boddy. People wanting tickets should visit www.brickexpo.com.au and follow the link to the ticketing site. Proceeds from ticket sales go to support the purchase of much needed equipment at the Canberra Hospital children’s ward.

K4 KO

Cale Leiphart just posted some beautiful train models (Pennsy K4 class for the trainheads). They’ve got all the bells and whistles (for some approximation of literally) and are sleek little beasts. But you really need to watch a video to do them full justice.

Multitude of mini many-legged mecha

It is always nice to see something new from Izo Yoshimura (Izzo’s Legostyle). Nicer still to see a collection.
