About Gambort

I'm a builder with a short attention span and a lot of virtual bricks. I'm probably most known as a train builder and was involved in the creation of LEGO set 10183 but I do a lot of other stuff too. I'm also a member of the LDraw SteerCo and a webmaster for the site.

Friendship 7 Launch in LEGO

Brian Williams (BMW_Indy) is more typically associated with highly detailed train models and Indiana Jones dioramas, so his recreation of the Friendship 7 launch is a bit of a departure. But I think it’s a happy departure. The LED powered flame effect really adds to the diorama.

Rubber Ducky

While my own eyes are pulled more to the tugboat, Schfio‘sLEGO x Rubber Duck Project” is clearly all about the duck. And you can’t argue with Sesame Street.

1p / 2p Push Start

I’m hanging out the bullet curtain and going for a double-shmup post today. Vaughan James (legovaughan) and Peter Morris both present heavily armed spaceships that look like they’re ready to battle 10,000 bullets and a few bosses. Vaughan’s STG-2013: Phase 3 (a Starfighter Teleport design) is at the top while Peter’s DB-15 Aethershrike sits below.

LEGO soldier from Nutcracker Ballet

It would seem that Matt Bace (mmbace) and I think along similar lines. Just yesterday I was looking up images for the tin soldiers from the Nutcracker Ballet. Today I spotted this fantastic likeness in my Flickr stream.

Space Invaders

I love the classic Space Invaders era shape Don Wilson (Ghengis Don) has going on in this LEGO starfighter. In general it has a nice old-fashioned feel without looking like something from a bad 80s cartoon.

Monochrome Ruins in LEGO

Recently the Polish LEGO club LUGPol ran a challenge to build a monochrome LEGO model. I think we can agree that Hippotam more than succeeded in meeting the challenge and making a great model with his “Destruction of Pompeii“. I’d like to see more people try building in just one colour.

Pods r us

Anyone following my flickr account will know I posted this LEGO repair pod a few days ago. But, thanks to a) the arrival of my new lightbox and b) my rediscovery of Kerouac’s account I figured the time was right for a posting. re. a) I was finally inspired enough by TR’s light tent fun to buy one myself.

Repair Pod

As for b)… the ultimate LEGO pods ever were made by Kerouac way back in time. These may have been blogged before but are worthy of reblogging by virtue of their awesomeness. If I could make a pod half this good I’d consider myself a winner.

LEGO firehouse from Portland

I bet you thought this model was about twice as big from the thumbnail. Jonathan Lopes (BKNY Bricks) continues with his sub-minifig scale building series with this delightful Portland firestation. The flag is very cool.

Petit éléphant

Thanks to a combination of builder’s block, photography fails, and general non-LEGO busy-ness it’s been quite some time since I blogged anything of my own. The “Petit elephant” is the second war-machine in my Imperial Russian alternate universe. It’s clearly inspired by Erik (lemon_boy).

Racism, handcuffs and tan half-pins

H. P. Lovecraft is, arguably, the most important author in the history of horror. The recalcitrant racist from Providence basically invented the modern horror genre back at the turn of the 20th century. Thorsten Bonsch (Xenomurphy) has created (with some help from Legopard) a highly atmospheric LEGO imagining of his study, complete with diabolical details and pretty presentation. Another entry for Mocathalon 2013.

PS. And yes, I am planning to enter Alliterathalon 2013.

Blue Pullman train in LEGO

Carl Greatrix (bricktrix) has once again built something I thought would be impossible to reproduce in LEGO. The Blue Pullman was a very strange, but ugly/attractive diesel luxury train running in Britain through the 60s. Its very distinctive wedge shaped face is extremely challenging, but Carl has managed to get a pretty great likeness. It also looks very nice lit up and running.
