About Gambort

I'm a builder with a short attention span and a lot of virtual bricks. I'm probably most known as a train builder and was involved in the creation of LEGO set 10183 but I do a lot of other stuff too. I'm also a member of the LDraw SteerCo and a webmaster for the site.

Mein lieber Schwan

While I don’t feel that the pictures entirely do this model justice Michael (Monteur) has packed in such an enormous level of detail I’d be remiss not to blog this. The attention to detail in the greebling and highly complex texturing in particular make this model a true standout.

Thanks to Holger Matthes for the tip and title.

Colour me castle

It’s really nice to see so much colour in a castle creation. Wochenender makes great use of simple techniques in this technicolour manor. I’m especially partial to the birds nest on the dark blue roof.

E is for electric

Peter Norman (swoofty) is offering swag in his latest train building contest: E is for electric. It’s being run in the LEGO Train MOCs group over on flickr. It would be great to see people use this contest to try out their first train designs, or first electric train designs. The contest runs until July 31st so there’s plenty of times to order bricks and get those entries made. If previous contests are any indication CAD should be acceptable too but source files must be provided upon request.

Whip it!

Andrew Lee (onosendai2600) hates his city so much he sent a giant robot to whip it into submission. Follow the curved trail of destruction for maximum enjoyment.

LEGO LDD contest at Eurobricks

Eurobricks are hosting a contest for models made in LEGO Digital Designer. It has some cool prizes donated by TLG so if you like using the software it’s time to start it running and get building.

Rancho Excellento

With mini dioramas it’s often hard to select a picture to go on TBB as you inevitably miss out some nice details. Josh Morris’s (I Scream Clone) Rancho Relaxo gave me that problem. I think this photo captures the ‘essence’ best but misses out on the muster yard and other details you can see in the zoomed pictures. And although he’s a fellow Aussie those of you attending BrickWorld 2010 will get to see this in person.

All aboard the LEGO train with working doors

It’s rare I get to use the ‘Technic’ category but when good technical design appears on a train even Technic-challenged me can appreciate it. Esben Kolind gives his commuter train a whole lot more fun with working doors and, as though that wasn’t impressive enough, a sliding step. And he does all this on a well detailed six-wide train. Incredible only begins to describe my feelings.

Thanks to Tim David for the link.

Where breakfast cereal comes from

I know I tend to blog the same few train builders most of the time but there seems to be a contest on flickr to see who can make the most sophisticated models. Mike Pianta (scruffulous) ups the ante with this utterly amazing grain hopper. What’s more the bogies (the things that hold the wheels) have working suspension.

WarholBots embrace kitsch and pretty colors

LEGO Andy Warhol robots

It’s always enjoyable to be able to lift a title straight from flickr. Alex Eylar (Profound Whatever) is the inventor (or maybe discoverer) of the adorably cute WarholBots.

EDIT: Alex has just made it easier to see his collection of artbots.

Night at the Museum: 2

-Cooper- takes a new approach to LEGO train displays with this little museum diorama to pose his Cab Forward and its passenger car. I think it’s a great idea for train fans to show off their models when they have minimal space.

Harry Potter and the LEGO Locomotive

It’s quite hard to tell that this Hogwarts Express train (the “Olton Hall” to be precise) by Carl Greatrix (Bricktrix) is actually LEGO. But it is aside from some custom stickers and a very small number of altered parts. The backdrop and track, however, is not.

And yes it would have been lovely if TLG had made the new Hogwarts Express train similar to this.

Lupusicle

Flick user retinence shows a very dab hand at Bionicle construction with his wolf. Apparently he “skimped on the technique”. I’d be curious to see what non-skimping looks like because it’s fantastic as is.
