Hong Kong’s Schneider Chung (Schfio Factory) raised the highly coveted “Best Sculpture” award at last weekend’s BrickFair Virginia for his work on this lovely but as yet untitled horse. Some of the photos coming out of Virginia are very interesting and no doubt Brother Dan will have something to say about it in the near future, once he recovers from the inevitable post-convention hangover. I’m not talking about booze either, in my experience builders seem to come away from conventions either hungover from too much Lego fanatic action, wanting nothing to do with the brick for a while, or fired up to go home and build. I hope Schneider is in the latter category because it is always good to see something new from him in my photostream.

“You must ride to Edoras and raise the alarm. Do you understand me?!”

Another day, another killer LOTR diorama, this time the perpetrator is -infomaniac- and the subject matter is the Golden Hall of Meduseld from Rohan’s capital city Edoras. This diorama would make a great companion piece to The Council of Elrond featured by Sister Caylin earlier this week. Enjoy tonight’s single-serving of Tolkienian boilerplate with details so accurate you can almost smell the horse manure….wait, that didn’t come out right. Any hint of manure should be attributed to this foul write-up and not the delightful model. My love of the halfling leave has clearly slowed my mind…

“Give me steam...”

The Olive-Conspiracy continues here at TBB with this classy widescreen diorama from pinioncorp called “Airborne Gaelic“. The hint of greenery is very effective, the minifig selection is perfect and according to a few notable train-heads like Brother Tim, there is some clever use of parts going on in addition to the Olive color.

Friday Night Fights (Round 16)

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another tap-out edition of Friday Night Fights! Tonight’s bout is a classic match-up of hipster vs manga-nerd with street-cred on the line. Let’s go to the tale of the tape:

Fighting out of the red corner, from The city of big shoulders…Dave “The Killer” Kaleta and his “Bat-Cow and Robin“.

And fighting out of the blue corner, from the school of hard knocks…”Murderin'” Mike Dung (MikeVd) and his “misaka“.

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding the outcome of this pugilistic endeavor by way of comment. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, the battle for logistical supremacy, a broad slate of judges called the fight 7-5 in favor of Nathan Ɲ. She may be trouble, but oh she’s pretty

For years I’ve marveled that so many people discount Bionicle and Hero Factory as worthless to adult builders. There are many, many fantastic examples that prove otherwise, and this stunning she-devil by Eero Okkonen (Pate-keetongu) is just the latest example of great ingenuity and creativity being displayed without using many traditional stud-and-tube bricks. The rubber bands forming the ties on the bodice, and the Bionicle chains forming the skirt are both phenomenal parts usages.

Pixar seems to be trending lately, and this adorable duo by legorobo:waka of Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc. is just too awesome to not show you.

An Unfortunate Encounter

Here is one of my own creations. I have wanted to illuminate a build entirely from below ever since transparent baseplates became readily available. So now I’ve finally got around to it. This scene depicts a lone wizard as he deals with the attack from a rather unwise assassin. The entire “landscape” is built on transparent baseplates. The white tree leaves are built onto black tree trucks so that the trucks would be harder to see and the foliage would appear to float above the scene. Lastly the whole scene is built up above the light-source, which has a sheet of transparent blue plastic covering it, for the diffused blue glow. If you want a challenge, give something like this a try. It definitely required a different approach!

This Hoplite Treads Heavily

This mega-mech by SPECTRE. is armed to the teeth–or should that be shins? I love the cockpit here; it’s nice to see some deviation away from using an official windscreen in a typical manner. And SPECTRE’s added just the right amount of highlighting to really make all the details stand out.

Massive Lego oil rig

Mario Fabrio spent a year building this massive oil rig that rises over 5 feet tall. According to the builder, the model is not based on an existing oil rig but contains just about all the components of a real one. Check out more photos on MOCpages.

The Council of Elrond the way it was meant to be

I could talk about the literary impact of the scene depicted from Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. I could write about the technical pieces about the sculpting, the curvature and natural look of the build, and excellent manner Paul (Disco86) has captured just a small portion of Rivendell.

But really, just look at it:

Seek! Locate! Terminate! in Technicolor

We usually avoid doubling posts here. But I’ll make an exception here since Steve Locke (LegoAvon) posts pretty infrequently. He’s followed his classic LEGO Daleks with their modern, jelly bean counterparts.

Olive Juice

This insect-like mech by legorobo:waka makes my heart go pitter patter. It has a great, military look to it, and just seems fun. Olive juice too, mecha, olive juice too.
