Tag Archives: Vignettes

Vignettes are like the haiku of the LEGO world. Usually built on a base 8 studs wide by 8 studs deep, vignettes show a little scene or a moment in time. But like written poetry, there’s plenty of variation on the basic theme.

Noone’s Fortune

I present you another black fantasy creature, this time in a post-apoc setting. There’s gold on the ground, but gold is worthless when there’s no one to spend it.

Interested in building something similar? I’ve just announced a black fantasy contest over at Classic Space, but you don’t have to be a member of the forum to participate. There will be prizes!

Hitting the road with Aaron Sneary

Inspired by Keith Goldman, Jon Palmer (Flickr) is starting a series of vignettes starring another real-life LEGO fan, Aaron Sneary.

In Jon’s first vig, Aaron chooses the items he will take on his journey.

The last tree on Earth

Shannon Young depicts a scene preserving the last tree on Earth, attended to by a faithful and solitary robot caretaker. What could you make of the meaning of this? Neither the creator nor I seem to have a clear idea.

Peace and Ley Ward vignettes

Deviating from his usually large dioramas, Keith Goldman crafts small scenes featuring Ley Ward (aka Professor Whateverly). They’ve got that hippy vibe, you dig?

More prototype weapons from BrickArms [News]

Corran101 recently won the Bladerunner vignette contest on the BrickArms forums, and his prize was a set of prototypes of new designs. The two designs are for the Auto-9 Pistol (the longer one) and PKD2019.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess vignette by Dan Sibley

The next game I plan on playing on my new Wii is Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I don’t want to spoil anything for myself by looking too much up about this vignette by Dan Sibley, so I’ll trust the comments on Flickr that this is true to the game.

What say you, readers?

Pool party at chibichistos’ place!

TBB reader chibichistos wrote us late last month with some news about 2008 LEGO sets (thanks!). Although Nannan beat me to blogging the news itself, filing the e-mail today reminded me that I hadn’t blogged this wonderful vignette, which I originally saw on VignetteBricks. (Okay, that was a way too complicated “via.”)

Aaaaanyway, I think the way chibichistos created the guy in the pool is just genius.

His skin was pale and his eye was odd.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is director Tim Burton’s latest collaboration with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. Sir Nadroj‘s vignette uses a partial basement to evoke a very “Burtonesque” atmosphere for his vignette version of a scene from the film.

The further adventures of Mike Crowley’s Snowblower Man

Mike Crowley‘s latest installments in his ongoing series of Snowblower Man vignettes introduce a new character — Snowblower Man’s girlfriend.

Naturally, our hero got his girl her own snowblower. Here they are — matching his and hers snowblowers:

I am not my LEGO collection

Adam Hally is both an excellent cartoonist and LEGO builder. His LEGO creations often have an artistic inclination, as his latest little scenes demonstrate.

“I am not my futuristic designer floor lamps”:

Vitus Barth’s Shadow World

Vitus “Tony” Barth says that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time inspired his latest LEGO creation. Regardless of its inspiration, Vitus’ mirroring of light and dark introduces a bit of chiaroscuro to his LEGO world.

The adventures of Snowblower Man

The whimsical mind of Mike Crowley (aka Count Blockula) has no limits. This time, he turns to make something exciting out of the mundane. Check out the “ongoing domestic winter adventures of Snowblower Man!”

“He’s just a regular guy, living in the northeastern part of the United States, trying his best to make it through yet another winter. The first heavy snowfall of the season has hit, and he knows what to do: bundled up in his winter’s warmest, he journeys out into the cold. Into the backyard, with deep and heavy footsteps, he makes his way though the thick, frozen white, all the way to the tool shed, where his finds his rugged and reliable friend waiting.”

Stay tuned to Mike’s gallery, where he plans on making a new vignette each day featuring the Snowblower Man.
