From giant space carriers to starfighters, moon bases to moon buggies, whether you love LEGO models inspired by real-world space programs or science-fiction, you’re in the right place.

Cephalofoil

The Ma.K starfighter contest continues to draw out excellent entries. Ted Andes dives in with his “Hammerhead” fighter, which features a cool custom sticker and can indeed fit a fig in its cockpit.

I also really like his “true” Ma.K hardsuit, which uses wrenches/clips as an ammo chain:

Put Your Brick Where Your Mouth Is TWO – Contest Extended

It seems that I somehow failed to announce this contest here on TBB when it started a month ago. As things stand right now, we’ve reached the deadline with fewer entries than we have prizes! I just received the prizes from LEGO a few days ago, and they’re all great. It looks like we’ll be giving away one each of almost all of the new Alien Conquest sets, not the small ones, though. Our smallest prize seems to be a twenty dollar set!

Put Your Brick Where Your Mouth Is 2 - Contest Announcementy

Just like last year, this contest is all about trying to build something that you think would make a cool set. Mark Stafford is serving as our celebrity judge, and he’ll try to give each entrant some insight into how a real set designer would have their design critiqued. Of course, this is an unofficial contest, and in no way constitutes a job offer from LEGO, or solicitation by LEGO of ideas for actual sets to be produced. It’s all in fun!

A little bit of every LEGO

“This build features a bit of everything: modulex, duplo , fabuland and regular system bricks”… that really says enough about Pierre E Fieschi’s Sobani Battleship. Well almost enough, it’s also beautiful.

Ma.K MH 30 Kraft Falter by Fredoichi

The Ma.K starfighter contest is yielding some amazing entries. Even though we can’t feature them all, a few stand out that we don’t want our readers to miss. While Fredoichi‘s entry might not do especially well at high speeds in an atmosphere, his airplane doors at odd angles, minifig helmets as vents, and every curvy piece imaginable capture the Maschinen Krieger aesthetic perfectly.

(And don’t miss Fredo’s recent sky-fighters, which we just haven’t gotten around to, despite obvious blogworthiness…)

Myocardial infarction

This curvy fighter by Mark Stafford is quite the heart stopper. The black and yellow stripes contrast beautifully with the red-tipped prongs, but what impresses me most is all the shininess — not something you necessarily notice in a lot of LEGO models.

Do a barrel roll!

Alexandre Bigeard’s (V1lain) Starfox Arwing makes me just want to say that.

Nice Figure

I never thought I’d see a space ship with a slim waist, but the Feros by Stijn (Red Spacecat) is just that. This thing is all smooth curves, synched in by a belt (in this case the bridge) in the center. He’s scattered a few interesting details throughout, which stand out starkly against the otherwise smooth figure.

As always, Stijn goes the extra mile in photoshop to bring us a nice presentation, as well.

Opalite-class H-17 cargo freighter

I love a good micro freighter. I can just imagine all the interesting things being carted around the galaxy. Lazer Blade uses pattern repetition and a wide variety of colors for the cargo containers to make a potentially boring freighter really rather awesome. My favorite detail is the ship number in red and gray near the back.

Hat tip to Evan B. for the suggestion (and photo editing, apparently).

Ma.K NPU

It took me a few seconds to recognize a Lego part on Adrian Florea‘s newest creation. Either I’m a noob or Adrian used some really obscure pieces to good effect. The only non-purist element is a painted canopy.

Interstellar Longshoremen’s Union – Local 832

Kyle (Slushey) knows how to move cargo in style. I can picture his heavy crate mover scooting around spaceports, transferring goods bound from Aldebaran to Alpha Centauri.

Aquestrian Metal

This piece of work by David Collins (intrond) fits in a unique genre that I can’t decide. It looks like a mix between a spaceship and a mechanical creature. The color blocking and the multifaceted chunks are pleasing to look at. A few stickers add the vital details.

Space Urchin

This little “space urchin” by tadashistate incorporates two missile launchers under its gorgeous green skin. The minifig hands form two rows of formidable spines.
