From giant space carriers to starfighters, moon bases to moon buggies, whether you love LEGO models inspired by real-world space programs or science-fiction, you’re in the right place.

Stripes make it go faster

The microGARC trend continues to race along at breakneck speed, distinguished by detailed stickering which makes the ships look much larger than they really are.

The Banana Split by Lego Junkie looks more like a heavy-duty construction unit rather than a racer. The repetition of the lines of the intakes in the stripes up top is particularly nice.

GARC; Banana Split.

This Elysium shuttle by Jacob Unterreiner (4estFeller) isn’t strictly a GARC racer, but the intentionally chaotic stickering and minute detailing make it fit in right alongside its flashier cousins.

Microscale SR-2 Normandy

Sometimes simple is better. This microscale model of Mass Effect’s SR-2 Normandy spaceship by Sydag doesn’t use many parts, but it captures the source brilliantly and is instantly recognizable.

Construction SHIPs for your Mega City

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always wondered how you would go about building colossal sci-fi mega cities, or mega worlds like Coruscant or Trantor ? According to Tim Goddard(Rogue Bantha) to build a Mega City, you need his Red Titan:

Red Titan 1

I’m not sure exactly how the magnets are used for construction, or if that’s a wreaking ball attachment, but if they can build such a stylish SHIP like that, they can build my city any day.

Ok Tim, where do I sign up?

These LEGO Doctor Who Bookends Will Keep Your Books from Going All Wibbly-Wobbly

Adam Dodge traverses the intersection of awesome LEGO model and useful real-world object with this pair of Doctor Who-inspired bookends. I suspect many a Whovian will be drooling over Adam’s excellent creation.

The hardscrabble Scarabee

This subtly menacing starfighter by Shamisenfred conveys a chitinous armored look all the more impressive for its still uncommon olive green livery. The sticker work is phenomenal as well, but the curved cockpit has to be my favorite detail.

Vorfechter Strike Fighter

Sometimes people (myself included) forget that there is no air in space… so why is it spaceships always have to be so streamlined and sleek? So it’s refreshing to see Nick Trotta’s (tardisblue) latest wonder of a star fighter. It’s big, it’s beefy, and frankly it’s #awesome with a capital #.

Vorfechter: Perspectives

The details are just jam packed. The techniques are phenomenal. There are things done on this fighter I have no clue how he did it… and I’m not the only one that is stumped with his build. Which is why Nick takes the unfathomably amazing step to teach us exactly how it’s done by posting a build video:

John Smith Alien Having A Ball

This latest creation by Karf Oohlu (Cthulhu for World President) really caught my eye this morning. The flying red ball concept is amusing, and reminds me of an anime or two. Add in the addition of hair to the alien minifig, and you’ve really got a winner.

Tommy Williamson (GeekyTom) built some scenes for the Lego Adventure Book Vol. 2 featuring space creations by Peter Reid. These skillfully staged shots can all be seen in the book, check out more on the Flickr.

Stay cool and go with the flow

There’s something appealing about the contrast of cool blue buildings against the hot lava river in this diorama by Michał Kaźmierczak. I really like the texture of the lava that gives it a glowing look without using any lights. There’s plenty more to see in the gallery on MOCpages.

Load’em up for the long flight ahead

This microscale space colony by torerik has all the features of a sci-fi base including, radars, a space crane, an eco-dome, and of course a giant spaceship. The layout covers 10 large grey baseplates and was built over a course of 10 months. Check out more details of the diorama on Flickr.
