LEGO Harry Potter 76423 Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station [Review]

The June 2023 Harry Potter wave includes a handful of unique treatments of the subject matter, and we’ll start our coverage with 76423 Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station. This isn’t quite unique, but it does include the first Hogsmeade Station since 2004! And compared to the most recent Collector’s Edition Hogwarts Express, it is compatible with LEGO track, a welcome change. It also intriguingly features the return of metal train axles after a 5-year break. Does the rest stack up, or is it off track? With Battle of Endor Heroes, we get 5 heroes of the rebellion in their Endor attire…well, four plus R2, who doesn’t wear anything besides his cheerful disposition. This mixture of standard and buddy-sized characters includes Jedi Luke with his green lightsaber, R2, Cape-wearing Lando, spunky Wicket, and jungle-camo Leia. Lately it seems as though LEGO has been pounding out the Technic super cars, both at the extra-large, uber-expensive level, like the Ferrari Daytona SP3 and midrange like the 2022 Ford GT. LEGO Star Wars 40591: Death Star II gift with purchase [Review]

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and LEGO has already announced a few sets commemorating the conclusion of the original trilogy, with more expected throughout the year. Star Wars fans around the world will be celebrating the franchise for much of next week in honor of Star Wars Day (May 4th). LEGO fans will have the opportunity to pick up a pretty neat gift with purchase of a microscale model of the second “fully armed and operational battle station” orbiting the forest moon of Endor. LEGO Harry Potter 76420 Triwizard Tournament: The Black Lake [Review]

The March 2023 Harry Potter wave includes one more playset, 76420 Triwizard Tournament: The Black Lake. This returns to a scene that LEGO has only depicted once before, almost 20 years ago (!) in 2005. This version takes advantage of the reintroduction of dark turquoise, which was just leaving the LEGO color palette back when 4762 Rescue from the Merpeople was released. LEGO Technic 42152 Firefighter Aircraft – A plane filled with features [Review]

Each time LEGO comes out with a new wave of any theme, there tends to be a sort of “flagship” model of the series. These are often large, top-dollar builds that makes every fan drool. But there are actually a lot of models that stand in the shadows as diamonds in the rough. LEGO Technic 42152 Firefighter Aircraft might just be one of those sets. LEGO Indiana Jones 77015: Temple of the Golden Idol [Review]

First launched in 2007, the LEGO Indiana Jones theme has brought us many fun scenes from all four movies, and as we prepare to rejoin our favorite professor/archeologist/adventurer in the upcoming 5th movie, LEGO has revived the theme with a wave of three new sets releasing in April. The largest set from this wave is the 18+ branded 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol, a 3-part diorama similar to smaller scenes from Harrison Ford’s other blockbuster franchise, Star Wars. The diorama set is based on the opening sequence of the movie Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, in which Indiana braves a dark and foreboding tomb in an attempt to recover an idol. Many key moments from this sequence are including, from the spiked trap that impales the unwary, the deep pit Indian swings across with his trusty bullwhip, a row of faces that shoot poison darts, and ending (or beginning) with a large boulder that rolls down a slope to block the exit, trapping anyone who isn’t fast enough to outrun it. The set includes a number of Technic elements that allow the play features to be operated simply by twisting dials mounted on the front. LEGO Disney 43217 ‘Up’ House – Adventure awaits! [Review]

There is no denying that one of the most beloved Disney Pixar movies of all time is ‘Up’ – and with good reason. The sweet story about a grumpy old man fulfilling a promise to his late wife and instead finding himself in his own adventure with new friends tugs on your heartstring. LEGO Harry Potter 76413 Hogwarts: Room of Requirement [Review]

LEGO’s 2023 Harry Potter line so far has just one entry in the ongoing modular Hogwarts Castle line: 76413 Hogwarts: Room of Requirement. Surprisingly given that the Deathly Hallows spans two complete movies, this is only the fourth set that LEGO has based on that material. There was a previous set covering the room — 75966: Hogwarts Room of Requirement — but that version, in addition to being much smaller, was based on Order of the Phoenix.
