Epic wrap battles of history

Marvel’s nocturnal crime fighter Moon Knight draws on Egyptian history and lore in much the same way that Marvel’s Thor does from Norse mythology. Meaning, very loosely and with little reverence or concern for accuracy. This remarkable LEGO build by PriXard is highly faithful to the source material though, beautifully capturing the outcast god Khonshu as depicted in the 2022 mini-series. PriXard achieves a wonderful eye-catching texture for Khonshu’s wraps throughout the model, using pretty much every white LEGO element I can think of that represents fabric except seemingly for the Moon Knight’s own signature hood element found in the Marvel Studios Series 2 Collectible Minifigures.

A browse through PriXard’s other creations reveals a builder who doesn’t shy away from adding custom cloth elements for wings, capes and the like as needed. They share that this creation is “not completely finished”, adding they “wanted to add more cloth, (though) don’t want to cover the details on the arms.” Understandably, as I think this detail deserves to be seen. Maybe we can convince PriXard to let this dusty deity rest peacefully as is…

Revamping mummies

LEGO Adventurers was my absolute favourite theme as a kid. Especially the desert theme. Seeing the Jungle Explorer Collectable Minifigure got my hopes up for the theme to be renewed. This might also explain my soft spot for LEGO Adventurer fan creations. This build by Kevin Wanner really hits the soft spot. We get very well put together fleshy minifigure renditions of all the familiar faces. Two very well designed vehicles. However the absolute highlight of this creation has to be the beautiful palm trees. There are dark tan eggshells used to create the trunk of the palm tree. The crown of the tree uses dark tan, green and bright green plant leaves to indicate the lifespan of a palm tree leaf. It looks stunning!

A place to escape from those pesky humans

I remember being super excited when Hotel Transylvania was announced in 2011. Not only due to its quirky theme or creepy characters. Director Genndy Tartakovsky announced that its potential success could also revive his old series, Samurai Jack. Well, Jack came back. Three movies and an animated series later, it’s clear this story was a big hit. Just in time for this Halloween, Mehdi Rustamov built a dollhouse-style playset inspired by this spooky series. This cute and creepy set is brimming with characters and features the main entrance hall, Dracula and Mavi’s rooms, and Quasimodo’s kitchen. Please don’t bother the vacationing creatures as we take a look around, all right?

Sphinx Secret Surprise in micro scale

GunnBuilding made a creation inspired by one of the sets I regret not getting as a kid. It’s the 5978: Sphinx Secret Surprise and it is done in micro scale. The set is instantly recognizable. With the grey Sphinx statute, the black tent, an Anubis statue and the classic desert car. There are obelisks, a fire place, a palm tree and this micro model even comes with a raised base plate, just like the original set. The Sphinx supports a classic minifig smile which seems more than fitting since the statue in the set supported quite a simple face too.
