Giant Quarian Cruiser from Mass Effect built from LEGO is 68 inches long!

Canadian LEGO builder Jason Corlett says that this LEGO Quarian Cruiser from the Mass Effect franchise is the largest ship he’s ever built. And while that’s not hard to believe given the sheer immensity of this vessel, the real skill is how Jason has packed all 68″ with excellent detail and shaping. I look at this ship in its entirety and I see all the small choices made by Jason during construction: the fit of the beveled ring into the other parts of the Cruiser, the pockets of detailed textural work in specific corners, the decision to cover a stud with a tile or leave the stud exposed, even the determination of whether a part should be light or dark gray. All 68 inches of the model feel consistent and deliberate. And, trust me, that’s hard enough to do for even the smallest builds!

Returning to normal, piece by piece

Building within the LEGO community means so many things to each person. Young and old, we all have a heartfelt connection with this iconic building block system, and those around us often can’t help but see it. Our connection with those who celebrate and support us in our hobby is deep and strong. So when we lose it, it can be hard to look at things the same way. Builder Jason Corlett recently lost his mother, his proudest and biggest fan, to illness. As our hearts go out to him and his family, he shows us that the spirit of building can serve to heal with this Green Machine Vic Viper. Though he knows life won’t be the same without her, I believe his mission to continue to make her proud with surely succeed.

SHIPtember starts earlier every year.

It’s that time of year again. The pool toys are being replaced by school supplies. The pumpkin spice cravings are growing more powerful. And the thoughts of LEGO fans are turning to SHIPtember. Every September, LEGO builders across the world create original spaceship builds using a Seriously Huge Investment of Parts. (Hence the ‘SHIP’ in ‘SHIPtember.’) This year, Jason Corlett has begun warming up his seriously huge shipbuilding skills with The Revolt, heavy-duty craft sporting tons of detail and cool play features.

The Revolt

With its twin front pylons and the angled rear section, the Revolt would look at home in any big-budget sci-fi franchise. In addition to the boatloads of tech detailing, the Revolt is packing retractable landing gear, a full interior with a bridge, and two cannons on each side that rotate together with the turn of a dial.
