While Shakepeare’s comedies are sometimes considered his lesser works, hats off to The Bard on this occasion for sending my double entendre meter into overdrive while considering possible titles for this post. Thanks in part to Tim Lydy and his vivid recreations of Bottom the Ass and Titania queen of the fairies, from the ever-popular A Midsummer Night’s Dream:
There have certainly been no shortage of LEGO recreations of the loveable Minions from the Dispicable Me movies, but Carlos Méndez takes it one step further with this perfect mashup of Minions with the popular video game series Assassin’s Creed:
While we await the summer release of the Minions’ first spin-off movie, I look forward to seeing other mashups involving these possibly cannabilistic banana-loving creatures!
Hot on the heels of his Ultraman build that we blogged last week, umamen brings us this amazing 8″ tall Star Wars stormtrooper figurine. The detailing and devious construction of the helmet alone are enough for me, but apparently this thing is even poseable too (…well, to some extent).
At this point true Star Wars fans can argue about which stormtrooper variation this is, or whether that’s Han or Luke under the helmet. Boring conversation anyway, because here’s a second dose of Star Wars LEGO goodness for you – a Chibi Micro Fighter version of the LAAT from the Clone Wars, by Yxxn. It’s adorable!
Even though this piece – entitled “Youth” – is a character build, the distinctive lanky style of it’s creator (Australian mecha builder Aaron Williams) is still recognizable. All that’s missing is a skateboard and a bunch of back-talk!
A slight digression … I’ve been meaning to see the Chappie movie for a while now and finally got around to it last night. And of course like any good builder, I spent an inordinate amount of time during the movie mentally figuring out how I could build him when I got home. I’ve seen a few other LEGO Chappie’s built already, but not a really big detailed one. It would have been my time to shine! And maybe even get blogged!
So I was super stoked to try … I got home, broke out my Dark Blues, got the Orange antennae built and just… gave up. It would have been too large and too complex and too difficult. But thankfully for everyone, Roman (th_squirrel) didn’t give up as easily as I did. Much like Chappie himself, he kept on going and built a super awesome LEGO Chappie:
This is just a thing of beauty. I also really love how Roman used pieces with the original stickers on them, it really adds that gangster touch to his LEGO Chappie.
Presented without commentary. Other than to say, this simple vignette by Letranger Absurde reminds me why I *love* the medium of LEGO, and the creativity of the LEGO fan community!
…apologies, but Skeletor’s revival on Robot Chicken is so complete at this point that I can’t even remember his catchphrase from the original Masters of the Universe show any more. But I do remember that he had an evil arch-nemesis called He-Man. And now Kevin Ryhal has crafted these erstwhile Eternial enemies in LEGO, resulting in what look like perfect replacements for my long-lost MOTU action figures:

Neill Blomkamp’s new movie CHAPPiE looks to contain the same gritty hi-tech dystopian fare he delivered in Elysium and District 9. I cannot wait! Although we still have a few more weeks before it hits theaters, Taiwanese builder Eric Tsai wasted no time LEGO-izing the central character:
According to his creator, this samurai warrior by MSP! is waiting for something. And given that it was built for the ongoing Symphony of Construction contest, maybe he’s waiting for some competition! The field is still wide open, but the contest ends March 1st. The Brothers Brick are providing $50 LEGO shop-at-home gift certificates for the winners, so listen to the theme music and see what it inspires you to build.

This hilarious series of vignettes was created by Swedish character-building duo Rickard & Helen – aka SuckMyBrick. They document a unique approach to curing Zombieism called the “Van Heckling” approach, whereby zombies are rehabilitated by simply encouraging them to engaged in everyday activities! What could possibly go wrong… Let’s take a look, shall we?

Sadly for those whose star sign is not Sagittarius, this awesome six-limbed archer by French builder Nicolas Picot is not to be part of a series, but was built for a Zodiac themed round in a contest underway on BrickPirate.net. But I’m ok with that because I’m a Pisces (…you know, thoughtful, impulsive, outgoing, shy, pragmatic, dreamy, hard working, lazy, always calm, and quick to anger).
