David Hensel (Legonardo Davidy) has emerged in recent years as one of the best castle builders around, as evidenced by the superb techniques exemplified in this simple little cottage. The rock work both in the bedrock and the stone walls is particularly compelling.
This gigantic siege tower, by burlogh (burlogh) is awesome. My character in the Lands of Classic Castle roleplay is troll, so I have to cheer for these guys! I love the how it is over-sized to fit the giant trolls and the scrap-wood look is great. The landscaping is spot-on and the dinos as motive power are frosting on the cake. That Cave Troll looks happy that he isn’t pulling anything this time!
Time is a funny thing: it both heals and utterly destroys. It can take away the crushing despair of a broken heart, a distant family, and right wrongs. It can carve landscapes, and level mountains. That’s pretty powerful stuff.
Built for the Castle display at Brickcon, this statue’s original purpose is lost–along with a limb, a hand, and the head has fallen to the dust. Further damage has resulted from the ongoing hostilities between the Boars and Bulls.
In all seriousness, I’ve been wanting to build a large minifigure for a while, and of course when I build it’s apparently ruined and weather-worn. And a bonus: this should survive the journey from Orlando to Seattle relatively intact!

Prometheus, having stolen fire from the gods, was doomed to a terrible fate of being pecked by eagles for eternity. That’s a bummer for Prometheus, but it just so happens to make a really cool looking vignette, as demonstrated by Mihai Marius Mihu.

No, not that one. You won’t find Jon Snow here–at least, not unless he’s being tortured by the orcs and trolls who do live here. This grim fortress by Hrczs1 is a terrifying jumble of textures and sharp pointy bits, and looks properly befitting to the dark wizard who commands it. Another day, another killer LOTR diorama, this time the perpetrator is -infomaniac- and the subject matter is the Golden Hall of Meduseld from Rohan’s capital city Edoras. This diorama would make a great companion piece to The Council of Elrond featured by Sister Caylin earlier this week. Enjoy tonight’s single-serving of Tolkienian boilerplate with details so accurate you can almost smell the horse manure….wait, that didn’t come out right. Any hint of manure should be attributed to this foul write-up and not the delightful model. My love of the halfling leave has clearly slowed my mind…
Here is one of my own creations. I have wanted to illuminate a build entirely from below ever since transparent baseplates became readily available. So now I’ve finally got around to it. This scene depicts a lone wizard as he deals with the attack from a rather unwise assassin. The entire “landscape” is built on transparent baseplates. The white tree leaves are built onto black tree trucks so that the trucks would be harder to see and the foliage would appear to float above the scene. Lastly the whole scene is built up above the light-source, which has a sheet of transparent blue plastic covering it, for the diffused blue glow. If you want a challenge, give something like this a try. It definitely required a different approach!
This beautiful cottage by Luke Watkins Hutchinson (-Derfel Cadarn-) is full of incredible details. The textures and shapes of the walls are fascinating. Then there is the lovely color scheme, flowing from the blues of the upper story to the patches of grass and the customized tree branches. It is an incredibly well-thought creation.
I love this small scene concocted by Justin (CrazyLlama2). The floor technique is nice. The walls and windows show some really good skills, but that scroll puts it over the top.
Although it’s a little low on color, that’s exactly what works in this diorama by K.Kreations. Both the roofs on the crumbling huts and the complex rock-work of the ravine are masterfully executed.

What was I talking about…oh yeah, dioramas done correctly. Although the frame of reference changes from the future to the past, the results are largely the same in this colorful model entitled “Welcoming the King“. The builder is Teabox (henrik_zwomp), who makes his sophomore appearance on this venerable blog with a diorama that pulls you in with a bear-hug and doesn’t let go. Although there is a mob of minifigs in a pretty tight space, the scene manages to never lose clarity. This wide-screen shot is my favorite of the bunch. You just know the black-hatted wizard on the second floor is up to no good…never trust a wizard.
