LEGO Creator App brings stop-motion studio to your mobile device [News]

Creator App

After the Creator Islands mobile game released back in Fall 2014, here comes a new themed app — the Creator App. This time it’s not just a game, but a number of digital activities for kids. The app features a monthly building contest (the current one is about racing accesories), a number of videos with building secrets and ideas, and a stop-motion studio, which allows the creation of simple videos up to 75 frames (~20 seconds) in length. Assuming the interface is extremely simple and freindly, the app might become the first stop-motion animation experience for many children.

The LEGO Creator App is availiable for both iOS and Android.

Golly fluff – Archimedes the owl in LEGO form

Many will recognise this wise, well-educated character as Archimedes from the Disney film The Sword in the StoneTyler Clites has depicted his colouring perfectly from those yellow eyes to the tuft of white feathers beneath his beak. As a character known to be a little grumpy and sarcastic, Tyler has captured Archimedes’ cynical expression perfectly with those expressive eyebrows.

Archimedes Owl

But don’t make the mistake of thinking he is a stuffed owl, I guarantee that those wings can flap. Fans of The Sword in the Stone will also enjoy a previous LEGO build we featured here on TBB, Kay’s Squire from the same movie.

“We jumped out of a window!”

What do you get if you combine the Pillsbury dough boy with the Michelin man and the Stay Puft marshmallow man? You probably get BayMax, the robotic sidekick from Disney’s new animated adventure Big Hero 6 (very loosely based on a Marvel comic of the same name). Oregonian builder Cole Edmonson wasted no time in creating a LEGO version of our inflatable friend with his mortal enemy, a soccer ball.

Warner Bros debuts The LEGO Movie trailer [News]

Warner Bros have released the first official trailer for the upcoming LEGO Movie. I guess they knew everyone would refer to it as “that LEGO movie” anyway, so they made life simpler for all of us by actually calling it that. Anyway, despite some initial trepidation about the quality of the film, the trailer heartens me. It’s usually a mess for old fans when a big company tries to break into a new market, but LEGO and Warner Bros seem to be hitting a lot of the right notes here. Aside from the terrific cast, the world looks well constructed, and there are lots of humorous nods to adult fans. I hope the final film will be as amusing. The film is tentatively slated for a February 2014 release.
