1995’s Space: Above and Beyond was an underrated Sci-Fi show with some great spacecraft designs that died a premature death. Fortunately for fans of the show, Balabas Shipyards has created what he calls “a 90% copy of the ISSCV”, a transport ship used by 58th “Wildcards”. If you like the model, be sure and check out this shot which displays the detachable cargo module.

Soren
Timothy Pendarvis ZephyrChaos has an interesting new mecha he calls “Soren”. Although the builder does not say as much, I suspect it is honor of reclusive Girondist Soren Roberts. It does have a striking resemblance to Roberts after one of his infamous paint-thinner binges. Perhaps I’m wrong though, Timothy could be referring to nineteenth century Danish philosopher Soren Kirkegaard or perhaps Søren Rasted – former member of Scandinavian band AQUA. Only ZerphyrChaos knows for sure, and he ain’t talkin’.
Ignore me, enjoy Soren.
And yes, paste-eater, it does fit a fig.
“Fat man, you shoot a great game of pool.”
“Dark things once again stir to the east.”
Sounds like bad news for the empire, but fortunately two mighty builders Glory_Forever and brick-a-brack stand against the darkness with their colaborative build “Andormar Pantheon”. Fine details abound, including a a footbridge set at an angle that really helps the build jump the grid. Nice work brothers McCLung, with your continued vigilance the “ancient enemy” doesn’t stand a chance.
Alabama Bound
Tonight’s double shot of rolling stock is brought to you by Fort Deposit Alabama’s own Peter Norman (Swoofty). First up is a “Modern Aluminum Gondola” designed to be light weight and mass producible to allow for long trains.
And bringing up the rear is a B&O I-12 Caboose with some great details throughout. Sleep well Train guys.

Games Informer interview Carl Greatrix
If you’ve ever been curious to know about how the models for games get designed, Game Informer have just run a piece on the highly talented Carl Greatrix. As I recall (but I could be wrong) Carl was one of the first fans hired by TT Games and has worked on most of their LEGO games.
Thanks to Carl’s Canadian sort-of-coworker Nathan Proudlove for the link
Good News Everyone!
Fullerton’s Okay Yaramanoglu (Oky – Space Ranger) has recreated Futurama’s Planet Express headquarters in micro-scale. Built for Eurobricks Micro Sci-Fi Contest, the model includes the “U.S.S. Planet Express Ship”, a Slurm delivery truck, Calculon and everyone’s favorite alcoholic robot, Bender.
Deep Water Exploration Pod by Lego Junkie
I love seeing exploratory sci-fi like Evan B.’s (Lego Junkie) DWEP. The use of the Technic figure helmet over top of the minifig headgear is a neat touch, as is the tethered submersible.
Also cool to see a minifig actually posed within the suit as opposed to just having it connected to it.
iPhone Gaming Stand by Cam M.
Cam M. built himself a nifty little stand to hold his iPhone so that he can actually steer while playing car racing games. Cam utilized a Smallworks Brickcase to attach the phone, but it would still be possible to do something like this without such a case. I think I may have just found myself a project for this weekend.
Here it is in action:
Edit
It appears we have featured this type of thing previously, however, this doesn’t make Cam’s any less awesome :)
Shrink-O-Matic Naboo Starfighter
The Palpatine’s Shrink-O-Matic contest over at FBTB comes to a close at midnight PST tonight. One of my favourite entries that I have stumbled across is this Naboo Starfighter by Bartosz Sasiński (bartosza6m (War-C)). The construction of the cockpit is absolutely brilliant, and the sleek shaping is spot on. Plus the display stand really adds a nice final polish.
Garry_rocks absolutely rocks!
Flickr user Garry_rocks has been churning out an endless supply of stunning mecha and hardsuit designs ever since he joined in November. I tend to overlook strictly virtual creations more than I probably should, and Garry reinforces that I should pay closer to attention to LEGO Digitial Designer (LDD) models more often. The fact that he creates these models without being able to hold the bricks impresses me even further, when I build it is always by trial & error and just generally fiddling with the pieces. If you haven’t already, you must take some time to browse through Garry’s stream. It is guaranteed to inspire all the mecha and sci-fi builders out there.
Garry has a total knack for creating fantastic cockpit designs at a relatively small scale…trust me when I say that I have been making notes.
