LEGO Gollum reminds us that there are only a few more days to register for BrickCon 2013!

BrickCon 2013 is less than a month away and registration will be closing in two weeks! If you are planning on attending the longest-running LEGO fan convention in North America, you had better get registered. There will be prizes, games, seminars, round-table talks, food, new friends and, of course, tons and tons of cool LEGO creations to drool over. This will be my eighth BrickCon and every one has been fun and unique. You definitely don’t want to miss the party! Iain Heath posted this video gem to remind all of us how precious registration really is…

If you lived through the 1980’s, this tune from Wacko-Jacko is no doubt indelibly burned in your mind. The mosaic-style video treatment of Thriller by Anette Jung is both unique and mesmerizing, even if it only covers the John Landis directed opening and not the entire song.

Yip,Yip Appa!

This amazing brick built Appa, the 6 legged flying buffalo from the series Avatar: The Last Airbender, seems perfectly timed with the second season of The Legend of Korra coming on September 13th. I always felt that LEGO’s initial attempt at doing a licensed theme on The Last Airbender failed to capitalize on what fans would truly want, and a gorgeous, constructed Appa like this one built by perennially featured Tyler (Legohaulic) is at the top of the list of what they should have done. I really would love to see a theme based on Korra.

3D Jaws movie poster built from LEGO makes it dangerous to go in the LEGO room

Chris “Lucifer” Adams has recreated the iconic movie poster from Jaws in fully three-dimensional LEGO form, complete with bubbles of air and a hapless swimmer.

King of cars and all around hellraiser Lino Martins is no stranger to TBB; in fact it is a rarity when one of his models doesn’t make the big blog. Although I’ve thrown in an obligatory model, in this case the somehow overlooked Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starliner, the real purpose of this post is to direct you towards a recent interview with Lino conducted by the boys over at Beyond the Brick. Forget your typical interview boilerplate like “I love Legos, they bring me back to a happier time in my childhood when nobody yelled at me and everything I did was special.”, Lino brings some much needed wit and braggadocio to the process that is sure to delight the hot-weather crowd.

If nothing else, you should check out the interview to see Matthew Kay’s new serial killer haircut…I can’t call him a cherub anymore, but the new look has somehow made him much more talkative. On the downside, the audio isn’t the greatest for this installment, but to me it somehow adds charm to their Wayne’s-World style approach. This is one of the greatest segments of the long-running series and probably my favorite.

Le Milan Noir

Did a Friday night of margaritas and tacos leave you feeling a little gassy today, constant reader? Then perhaps you will appreciate and enjoy today’s offering from regular contributor F@bz; a methane space-tanker with all the details and greebles that you’ve come to expect from the talented Frenchman. What really separates F@bz work from other builders in the genre is his consistent, effective use of negative space.

Thanks to Crimso Giger who suggested this model on the request-line and has an interesting new spacecraft of his own that is worth a look for the candy-color scheme alone.

Dordrecht Water Tower

Erwin te Kortschot (buildingmaster1966) returns to the Brothership on back-to-back Saturdays with this vision in brown that was actually constructed sometime last year but only recently posted to Flickr. The castle-like water tower from the Netherlands was designed by architect J.A. van der Kloes and was completed in 1882. If you find yourself passing through Villa Augustus and in need of rest, the building is still in service as a hotel. Friday Night Fights (Round 20)

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another low-blow edition of Friday Night Fights! Tonight’s bout features two masters of minimalism willing to put everything on the line for your entertainment. Let’s go to the tale of the tape:

And fighting out of the blue corner, from the cool side of the pillow…the_jetboy and his “Man in the Brown Suit”

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding the outcome of this pugilistic endeavor by way of comment. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, good triumphed over evil with a score of 7-3. Tune in next week for another action packed edition of Friday Night Fights!

Factory Friday

Normally I wouldn’t bring up a work related topic with the weekend upon us, but Lee Young (edguy20) has created a pair of brilliant factories that demand your attention. The builder is decidedly tight-lipped about his work, but some models need no description or tedious back-story. The only thing I find lacking is a little bit of action…where are the minifigs?

Edguy is a power metal band from Fulda, Germany but I doubt they have any connection to this second factory. The builder seems to have named it after his screen-name.

Grab your time-card and punch out, it’s Miller time.

Blake Baer just finished an outstanding Scientific Scale that includes functional details like sliding doors, scales, leveling mechanism, arrows to indicate equality of weight, working weight differential, sliding drawer and working tweezers.

A daring aviator and his plane

From French builder 74louloute comes this amazing diorama of 1930s aviator Henri Guillaumet, a mail pilot in South America who crashed in the Andes and lived to tell the tale. The scene here is brilliant, and the builder is the first I’ve seen to use tiles and the new inverted tiles together to make a super thin smooth wing, and it works marvelously.
