There is something that’s just plain awesome about LEGO creations that go beyond just looking cool and enter the realm of being full-on functional. In this case, hippotam‘s made the perfect gift for the kitchen-inclined AFOL in your life.

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I have not yet made it to the third installment of Mr. Martin’s epic tale. I cannot claim to have seen any of this season yet, either (which I assure you is very sad). I can, however, tell you that I’ve been flickr-stalking Dave Ware (Brickwares) since I caught a sneak-peak of this mosaic on facebook.
Clearly my flickr-stalking paid off. Because this is just stunning, and regardless of your opinion of the Lannister family (or any of their words), you can certainly take a moment to appreciate this mosaic.

If you lean more towards the sci-fi end of the spectrum, Dave’s got something for you, too.
Tim Inman‘s (rabidnovaracer) gorgeous little beauty just screams class. Or rather, quietly informs you that certain decorum is required and screaming is unbecoming of those who ride in this particular vehicle.
Either way, he presents this ZIS-110 limousine, from 1946, which really is just a fabulous way to travel.
Castles don’t have to be huge to be impressive–like this gorgeous “little” build by Eklund. There’s quite a bit of detail packed into a moderate sized castle, and the scene is enhanced by some nice landscaping. I like the lines of the castle’s footprint, giving it a nice natural effect!

I spotted this the other day, and simply needed to share. There are some brilliant trees floating about in the general LEGO universe, and I love spotting techniques that add character, brilliance, and stand out amongst the others.
Enter the Lonely Tree, by Luke Watkins Hutchinson (Derfel Cadarn).
I love the way the tree twists and turns.

Books are pathways to other worlds, and far more readily available than a wardrobe opening to Narnia. Annie Corder gives us a way to have a bit of both with these lovely bookends.
This brightly colored Inn by Nick V (brickthing) is just packed full of detail. I can’t say I would have ever recognized it from it’s source material, but Nick’s description says it was inspired by a number of buildings from Asterix. I’ll take his word for it!
I’m guessing you recognize this iconic scene from an essential 80s film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. There are few images that can make you feel nostalgic quite like a bright moon and a boy on his bike. Noah McClung (Glory_Forever) has rendered it beautifully in brick.
