25% off 8086 Droid Tri-Fighter on Amazon

One of the best Star Wars sets to hit shelves in 2010 is the
8086 Droid Tri-Fighter because of its great parts. Now you can get the set for $19 on Amazon, and you should take advantage of their free shipping and tax-free attributes for most states :)

I don’t know how long the sale will last; it could end any moment as with sales from Amazon. It is unlikely that you’ll be able to find this set at 25% off or more in the future. LEGO Star Wars sets rarely make it to clearance before they’re sold out or out of production.

Theme Bending Contest

Tired of castle builders having all the fun in their Time Twister’s Contest? Now you can take any Lego set and remake it in another theme. Here, the host Tom Williamson bends the Shanghai Chase into the space theme using only pieces from the set. You have until March 31st to submit an entry. The first place prize is a nice V-19 Torrent.

Mecha goes primal

Alex Fojtik‘s Hoodoo mecha is powered by voodoo magic from the shrunken heads and the bones in its “sack.” This is a refreshing take on the mecha theme to say the least.

New minifigure magnet packs also released [Mini-Review]

While Andrew got the 7684 Pig Farm & Tractor, I bought the new magnets to see if LEGO has improved their minifigure quality in these products, and the answer is: yes, they did!

The minifigs from the new magnet packs (shown below) are indistinguishable from the minifigs you’d find in regular sets.

Whereas before, figures from magnet packs were of notably decreased quality plastic and had loose joints and even printing discrepancies in color. It’s safe to say that LEGO has fixed these problems, but $14.99 for a pack of three figures is still on the price-heavy side.

The best ASS model contest

With a title so catchy, I just had to share it on the blog. FBTB’s newest contest asks you to build an Alternate Separatist Shuttle model, oh what else were you thinking? The winner will receive a cool 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter. Head over to FBTB to view the details. The deadline is March 31st.

Road heist on Mars!

Mark Stafford‘s new creation is called Fast and Furious on the Olympus Highway, and it’s just what the series of pictures depict – a road heist on Mars! You can see more pictures of each individual vehicle on Mark’s MOCpages galleries.

What the Death Star looks like as a floating rock

Barney Main (SlyOwl) knows our soft spot when he built his entry for the Time Twisters Contest. The association with 10188 Death Star is so obvious and hilarious that you don’t even need to know the rules of the contest to predict this as a likely winner.

Until We Ride the Cosmic Spiral

What you see here started as a tablescrap of a spiral featuring a technique I learned from The Rack by Bryce McGlone. I wanted to incorporate it in a sci-fi scene based off the concept of the cosmic spiral from my previous creations. Having built the rectangular light gray generator of the spiral, I had to set it diagonally on a rectangular base for more visual interest, complemented by the parallel direction of the dark blue tiles. I could’ve made a non-rectangular base, but that would’ve distracted from the sterile lab atmosphere.

30,000-piece Star Wars Droid Control Ship

After two-years in the making, Paul Yperman‘s Droid Control Ship will no doubt enter the ranks of the legendary Star Wars creations. Compared to Thomas Benedikt‘s version, Paul’s build differs in the surface textures of the model. He uses tiles and greebling elements in shades of gray to add realistic-looking details, which really enhances the appearance of this amazing creation.

Lurker in the darkness

Apparently I was by far from being the only fan of Mike Foy‘s monster called The Void. The simple use of the new claws are are extremely effective along with the arms made out of lever bases and the string wrapped around the torso.

Once again, many of your prayers are answered with these two upcoming minifigure packs, featuring Chancellor Palpatine, Nute Gunray, Onaconda Farr, Han Solo, Paploo, and scout trooper. I forgot to mention that the magnets are just part of the packaging :)
