Tekka Croe has built a beautiful new space fighter. He’s called it the “MX-01 Firefli”, and while I’m not sure why it’s not a “Firefly,” I really enjoy the shape of it. It looks more like a tropical fish than anything else to me, considering all the bright colors and spines. It’s also quite heavily armed, as you can see.

Nathan’s Micro Space
Nathan Simkiss (Arterin) has recently posted a fantastic array of micro scale space creations. He’s managed to make clever use of several parts to create great detail at a small scale. I especially love his “freighter/tanker thing,” below.
30 Years of LEGO Space [News]
As some of you may know, this March (you know, starting tomorrow) marks the 30th anniversary of LEGO space sets. A group of fans is celebrating this in a big way, by unveiling a new Neo-Classic-Space creation every day for the entire month. Check it out, and don’t forget to keep an eye out for my own contribution sometime during the month.
Here’s the press release:
March 2009 sees the 30th anniversary of the original Classic Space sets from LEGO. Now, three decades on, it’s time for a celebration of spacey goodness at www.neoclassicspace.com.
Neo-Classic Space is a reimagining of the LEGO Classic Space range, using modern building techniques and parts. More than just inspired by the Classic Space sets, Neo-Classic Space is an extrapolation of the line into the 21st century and beyond. We aim to follow a carefully thought standard, which we feel is in keeping with the original designs.
The culmination of a top-secret project planned over many months, www.neoclassicspace.com will present a new model every day throughout March, many from builders you already know and love, some from new talent you may not have discovered.
This is only the beginning. It is time to retake space. We hope you’ll come along for the ride!

Why a Black NXT? Because it is cool! And looking around in the MINDSTORMS community we noticed that a Black NXT was high on the wish list among users. The LEGO MINDSTORMS Team
I must say, I find this to be pretty cool news. I think that the LEGO Mindstorms Black NXT Brick is quite sharp looking. Maybe our own Nannan will even find a way to work on into one of his black fantasy creations.
I’m not sure why their press release says there will be 1998 made in one spot, and 1000 in another, but I’ll try to get an answer on that.
EDIT (AB): I’ve confirmed with LEGO that it’s 1998.
Red mecha are nice.
Especially when they’re inspired by Warhammer 40K.
Mark Stafford and Flickr’s CBLA_Member have both built new creations based on Warhammer 40K, and both are Red.
CBLA has built a pirate mecha (right) to scale for minifigs, which makes excellent use of a Jack Stone skull piece for marking on the shoulder.
Mark has built a space marine (below) from the blood angels chapter to scale with a big Knight’s Kingdom head.

Zach’s Manticore
Zach has built a droid, called a manticore that’s so bizarre that I can’t look away. I always thought that a manticore was a lion with a human head and a scorpion’s tail. Instead, I’m looking at a droid that has two feet, and that’s where the similarity to anything in nature ends for me. That’s also why I like it, it’s so different from anything else out there. The technique using wing plates to make a curve is used here to great effect, and integrated quite well.
Sometimes I even build myself
This weekend was one of those times. I built two new creations to add to my alien emissary’s fleet. I built a small flying probe, intended to be similar to a larger one that I’ve already built, as well as hexapodal robot. I also tried something new with the photography, and used HDR techniques to take the photos. These methods seem to have provided very nice results.
Pete Reid’s at it again.
Pete Reid is well known for his Neo Classic-Space ships, and for his hyper-detailed robot models. He’s built another new robot, and this one is in a color scheme after my own heart. It’s full of fantastic little details, from the tip of the staff all the way down to the feet.
The barrister is in.
Yvonne Doyle ({YVD}) posted her lovely Barrister’s Office before I joined The Brothers Brick as a blogger. I was reminded of it again today, though, and when I saw that it hadn’t been covered here, I had to post about it.
I love the paneled wall that she’s built out of crates, and the lamp with green glass is absolutely perfect. This is exactly what I imagine a barrister or attorney’s office should look like. Of course, I work in a cubicle, as does every attorney at the office of the firm where I work, but a man can dream.
Apparently dwarves like roller coasters.
This is news to me, but flickr’s SlyOwl has done a fantastic job of showing us the medieval thrill rides built by the bearded miners. The twisting track is awesome, and he’s added a fantastic sense of motion with the minifigs on board. Of course, he’s not content to merely show us the ride in motion, he’s also built an accompanying display of the entrance to the ride, complete with jesters entertaining the patrons waiting in line. Don’t forget to check out the little details in the roller coaster scene, like the section of track that seems to be held up by bats, and the section of fallen track on the cave floor. Is that guano under the bats?
Jamie’s Gunship
Jamie (steelharbingerofdeath) has built a neat little gunship from the future. I think he’s done a great job on the rings for the lift-turbines, which I guess are spinning so fast that we can’t even see the blades. The body is compact, and it has just the right splash of color.
