To the minimobile, Robin!

Sir Nelson has built a nifty mini batmobile:

Using one of the strange little racer bodies, Nelson has created a masterpiece! Instantly recognizable as the world famous super car, this mini version is awesome, way to go Nelson!

Brody’s Col du Mont Tower

Many LEGO fans go through a period called a “dark age” or “the dark ages” during which we don’t buy LEGO or build anymore. Although I continued building at home during high school and college, I didn’t buy a whole lot of LEGO between 1989 and 1997. Many LEGO fans credit the Star Wars line (released in 1999) for bringing them out of their dark ages, but I joke that I had a second dark age of my own between 1999 and 2004. I feel like I wasted those five years building nothing but Star Wars creations, missing out on all the other great sets LEGO released. But enough about me.

Bruce noticed this wonderful castle from new Brickshelf user Brody — “Col Du Mont Tower”:

Bruce posted his find in this thread on Classic-Castle Forums, drawing Brody out of lurker mode, explaining that he has just came out of his dark ages. It’s amazing to see this kind of creation from a “new” builder. Be sure to click the image above and check out the full gallery to see all the great details in Brody’s castle.

More Plastic Geeks!

A month or so I posted a batch of geeky minifigs. Today I’m back with more.

Peachtree’s Lighthouse

I like Japanese builder Peachtree’s creations (blog and Brickshelf) because, like large vignettes, each one contains a lot of detail in a very small space. Peachtree’s latest project, a lighthouse, is no exception:

Squieu’s Ant-Gravity Bike

Brickshelfer squieu builds fantastic mecha that use clips, hooks, and other small pieces to create lots of detail and articulation. (Look for more of his mecha on this blog in the future.) Squieu has used this technique for an awesome anti-gravity bike:

I don’t think the LEGO bike actually transforms, but check out the alternate form it can take:

LEGO King Championship Footage on YouTube

Last November, I blogged about the LEGO King Championship event broadcast on TV in Japan. Now, via the aptly named TV in Japan we have actual footage of the show:

Mr. Polegohead by Allan Bedford

Allan Bedford, author of The Unofficial LEGO Builders Guide, has posted a cute LEGO sculpture of Mr. Potato Head. Naturally, he calls it “Mr. Polegohead”:

Edit (6/6/06): Updated with the correct spelling of Allan’s name (in case this shows up in the feed again).

Favorites from the FBTB Star Wars Vignette Contest

If you’ve been following Bruce’s posts on VignetteBricks, you know that FBTB Forums have been hosting a Star Wars vignette contest. The contest has spawned many great vignettes, but here are a few of my favorites. (FBTB Forums admin Onions has kindly posted a photoset on Flickr with all of the entries.)

Two vigs from bwu that use micro vehicles and minifig heads in an interesting way:

Han Solo drops a toolchest on Chewbacca’s head in a vignette from Mark Stafford:

Another micro vehicle entry — this one from yellost:

Finally, my personal favorite, an explosive scene from Return of the Jedi by Big_X:

Mark Stafford’s Crysilon Silverfish

Mark Stafford’s most recent creation seems to be the first entry in a new Space faction, the Crysilons. Mark describes the Crysilons as “Strange aliens allied to the insectoids and with no colour sense at all”:

And check out the minifig pilot! I believe that’s a CLIKITS piece for a head:

Toshiya’s Kuromi

Sanrio (of Hello Kitty fame) recently released a counterpart to pink-hooded bunny My Melody called “Kuromi.” Apparently there’s a TV show centered around My Melody in Japan (official Web site and clip on YouTube — both in Japanese).

Toshiya has built a nice little Kuromi statue, complete with key, black hood, and spiky devil tail:

Yes, that’s a red skull on Kuromi’s hood.

Robopants?!

Looking through Graznador’s photostream again today, I caught something I’d missed earlier. Graznador proves that those horrible Galidor action figures LEGO made a few years ago can be used for something. Specifically, rediculously awesome robopants:

BaronSat Does Steampunk

BaronSat presents a cool steampunk vehicle called the “Crocodile”:

Naturally, the Crocodile is amphibious, and the mouth opens to reveal a cannon:
