FBTB R-Wing by Chris Edwards

Okay, so scanning 250 posts in the FBTB contest thread turns out to be worth it. Chris Edwards joins the dogfight with his own take on the R-wing:

What I like about this one is that it looks exactly like a typical Star Wars fighter. In fact, if a Y-wing and B-wing spent the night deep in the romantic gloom of a temple on Yavin IV, this is what might emerge a few months later.

FBTB R-Wing: Maravah by Brayton Orchard

I haven’t read through all 249 posts in the R-wing fighter contest on FBTB, but I’m certainly running across some great entries on Brickshelf. Brayton Orchard’s entry just blew me away:

The brick-built, white-on-red detailing is just stunning. Both the weaponry under the nose and what I presume are the engines are delightfully greebilicious. It doesn’t scream “Star Wars!” to me (in fact, I mistook it for a micro-ship at first), but it certainly captures the R shape wonderfully.

    But will it float?

Steampunk creations have dropped off a bit after the conclusion of the recent contest on Flickr (congrats to winner Kevoh for his Whirligig). Staving off our steampunk withdrawal is Andrew Horvatits, with this nice little balloon:

Moko’s latest batch of creations includes two adorably martial vehicles.

    Babironne

I haven’t quite figured out this recent creation from Squieu. Sure, it’s a mecha, but it’s very sculptural:

It’s very strange, but still very cool. (Thanks to Linus Bohman for the pointer!)

    Nelson Yrizarry: Man or Super-Man?

Some men call him a god. Other men name weeks after him. It is undeniable that Nelson Yrizarry stands above the rest when it comes to vignettes. One reason is the minifigs he includes. Here are my favorites from his latest vignette-building binge.

    Mnup Yyyeshnit Nidip! Meep norp.

I have no idea what I just said. I hope I didn’t offend any aliens who read this blog (you know who you are). Brickshelfer osk certainly captured their likeness in an excellent batch of alien minifigs:

    3vil Battle Station Agrona

Building in Mark Sandlin’s fan-created “3vil” sub-theme, Legohaulic has created a menacing battle station, dubbed Agrona:

    Here’s the crew:

    Pippin Reed: 2084

Dennnis Coh is participating in the FBTB Forums R-Wing contest, but what caught my eye was his minifig pilot:

With a great brick-built weapon and excellent color coordination, Dennis’ version of Pippin Reed is smokin’ hot.

(Only after typing up the Technorati tags below did I notice just how much of a mashup this minifig is: With a name and head from Adventurers, built for a Star Wars contest, using an old Spyrius torso, Pippin makes an excellent Space minifig.)
