Vignettes are like the haiku of the LEGO world. Usually built on a base 8 studs wide by 8 studs deep, vignettes show a little scene or a moment in time. But like written poetry, there’s plenty of variation on the basic theme.

Micro Wizard of Oz

It’s been awhile since we last saw iridescent nohow, but he’s back with a whole slew of micro builds that will make you think twice about a lot of pieces.

I was going to point out all the extremely clever piece uses here, like the drum sticks, the little flesh hands and each of the mini-micro figs … but at eight studs long it’s pretty easy to see all the nice piece usages.

(Though I will point out the fantastic Red Ruby Slippers on Dorthy).

Nothing fishy with this vignette

Jonas (Legopard) packed a lot of detail into this exotic vignette of a bamboo hut. The water technique is perhaps the most interesting feature to point out.

The Cult of Bacon

Now here’s a cult I might join: a place where bacon is revered and cooked tenderly to a delicious crisp. Builder Rifiröfi has an active imagination and the building chops to really bring home the bacon.

A ghastly encounter

This scene by Luke Watkins Hutchinson (Derfel Cadarn) seems like a slice of someone’s nightmare. Check out the use of the judge’s hairpiece on the face of the ghoul.

A Renaissance man’s workshop

Captainsmog‘s vignette featuring a character based on Leonardo da Vinci is an example of a creation that shows lots of fine details and techniques that beckons one to explore every corner of the build.

Prometheus and the wrath of the gods

Prometheus, having stolen fire from the gods, was doomed to a terrible fate of being pecked by eagles for eternity. That’s a bummer for Prometheus, but it just so happens to make a really cool looking vignette, as demonstrated by Mihai Marius Mihu.

Real-action Earthbender

This vignette by Dark-Alamez features a must-see video showing a minifig manipulating the snowscape. Watch the first 5 seconds of the video and see if you can figure out how the builder did it. It’s a very clever and simple technique.

Stuart Delahay presents a vignette of Kid Joker demonstrating how to do division with a cleaver and a cat. Enough said.

Dennis The Menace

LegoJalex built a scene from a classic American comic and TV series, Dennis The Menace. I read some of the comics as a kid, so it was recognizable to me. Regardless, one should note the slingshot that Dennis is holding; it’s a very eye-catching accessory made out of official Lego elements and a custom sling.

A Bear at the Fair: the Fighting Pits

Gideon_83 has made this fantastic cutaway vignette of a medieval middle-eastern fighting pit, wherein man and beast face each other in a barbaric clash.

His next most recent model—a more placid look at the toll the shifting desert sands take—strikes my fancy as well. It’s a beautiful use of a few colors and just a few simple pieces.

Ironing Man

This little vignette by crises_crs made me laugh more than it probably should have. So I felt that I should share it so that you can laugh more than you probably should.
