Tag Archives: Steampunk

Looking at these LEGO steampunk models, you can almost hear the hiss of steam, the clank of gears, and the whirr of clockwork. The steampunk aesthetic isn’t all wood and brass, so be sure to check out all the colorful models alongside classic steampunk creations from around the world.

But will it float?

Steampunk creations have dropped off a bit after the conclusion of the recent contest on Flickr (congrats to winner Kevoh for his Whirligig). Staving off our steampunk withdrawal is Andrew Horvatits, with this nice little balloon:

Flickr Steampunk Contest

Several people asked for a link to the steampunk contest on Flickr, so here it is:

The contest is almost over, but the judging should be beginning soon, and it’s always interesting to see which creations are selected as the best.

Kevoh’s Heliocopter and Whirligig

Thanks to the Flickr steampunk contest, there’s been a bumper crop of steampunk lately. Awesome. Kevin Blocksidge adds two more with his Heliocopter and Whirlygig.

Kevin’s heliocopter has gone through several iterations, and I have to say that this, the simplest version, definitely works for me (love the minifig):

The whirlygig is apparently based on a real-life experimental vehicle:

Nathan Proudlove and the World of Tomorrow

This may be the first steampunk SHIP (that’s a Spacer term for Significantly Huge Investment in Parts). Nathan Proudlove presents a flying steampunk aircraft carrier reminiscent of Angelina Jolie’s ship in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow:

Not surprisingly, my favorite part is the little steampunk bicycle thingie sitting on the deck:

Micropunk, huh?

Microscale + steampunk = “micropunk” according to Scott Whitesell. Here’s his “steampunk dirigible air fortress” in microscale:

Ewwwww! I hate spiders!

But I love Kevin Blocksidge’s arachnid steampunk walker:

Steampunk Speederbike? Boat? Rototiller?

Flickr user jastermereel08 has been exchanging insults with the world at large through his 133t-speaking insult bot, but this little vehicle caught my eye this morning:

jastermereel08 identifies this as a boat, but I also think it works rather well as a speederbike, and quite possibly a rototiller. Whatever the case, it’s actually kind of cool.

“The only love I’ve known’s a chimney sweep...”

Jonesy demonstrates that costume-wearing indie-rockers can indeed inspire LEGO with Leslie Anne Levine, a cool little steampunk dirigible:

(Check out The Decemberists and even legally download several of their songs from their label, Kill Rock Stars.)

Another Steampunk Walker!

What a great day for steampunk! Via RustyClank.com, here’s Ben Gorman’s steampunk walker:

Andrew Horvatits’ Colonial Steampunk

Given that so much steampunk is Victorian, much of it seems very British. By using blue Imperial Soldiers minifigs, Andrew Horvatits’ “Colonial Steampunk” creations could be French or even American. (Just imagine steam-powered war machines at the Battle of Bunker Hill!)

Here’s Andrew’s colonial walker:

Jamie Neufeld’s Crimson Skies Minifigs

Jamie Neufeld gets steampunk. He proves this by distilling the steampunk aesthetic down to minifig scale. For a building style that relies on hoses, gauges, boilers, and an overwhelming amount of detail, this is no small feat.

Here’s Jamie’s U.S. Air Cavalryman:

And his Zeppelin-robbing thief:

Head on over to Classic-Space.com to discuss Jamie’s creations.

Legohaulic’s Three-Legged Steampunk Walker

Brickshelfer Legohaulic joins the steampunk revolution with an excellent three-legged walker (via LEGO-BINGO):

The combination of extensive Technic parts with little details like the wooden paneling around the cockpit or the umbrella over the driver make this a perfect example of the steampunk building style.
