This modern city by Oliver Barrell demonstrates what is possible when you build a city in harmony with nature. Wind turbines and solar power the city, while green spaces and clear, clean water provide an essential connection to the site.

The choice of only a few colors for the buildings, and the use of clever parts like the flexible wristband wrapped around the tower in the middle help this building stand out. Not to mention the light rail line passing directly into the mountain on the left. I would certainly love to live in a place like this.

Look past the spook, and you’ll see some terrifyingly good LEGO techniques

The thing about finding great LEGO creations to share on the internet is that sometimes, you do see some really disturbing things. And no, I’m not talking about the price tags in stores. In this instance, it’s Oliver Barrell‘s entry into the Summer Joust building contest. It gives me, frankly, the heebiest of jeebies. I guess that’s rather the point, to be fair. But it does risk distracting me from some rather neat building techniques, be they the forced-perspective house in the back, or the ingenious use of a 1×2 current-carrying brick. Am I grateful I’ve seen this LEGO build? I suppose I have to be. I don’t want that… Thing coming after me if I admit I’m not!

For fans of LEGO castles and medieval life, the Summer Joust is one of the biggest events of the year as dozens of incredible builders construct incredible models on the year’s themes. Go tell it to the crocodile-riding tribe

Sometimes intergalactic news is so good you have to visit other planets to tell the crocodile-riding tribes about it. What exactly this good news is, LEGO builder Oliver Barrell did not specify but the news delivery system seems to be a sweet spaceship based on a Pterosaur. That’s pretty much the mode of transport I’d pick. It demonstrates the awkward wings-folded gait the Pterosaur likely had when not in the air. Oliver tells us there is no Photoshop trickery here; the model is real, precariously balanced, and fragile. I mean, just look at that ragged, trailing edge of the wings- and the cockpit! That’s brilliant stuff, right there.
