Malaysian LEGO fan Teikjoon introduces us to Dr Transistor. And let’s not forget the lovely Nurse Muggins. Enough said.

Got style
Fabrice Pathier (Four H) from Vimeo made an ultra snazzy fashion show clip featuring designs by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac displayed on LEGO minifigs. I have not seen smoother LEGO animation than this; it’s truely top notch work.
Giant minifig appears on British beach, less mysterious this time around
When we last saw the NO REAL THAN YOU ARE minifig, it appeared on a beach in The Netherlands to much fanfare and even inspired Nathan to build a real LEGO version.
A similar figure, this time with a green torso, has shown up on Brighton beach in England (click for the full story on BBC.co.uk):
A LEGO UK spokesperson told the BBC, “We understand the person behind this is a Dutch artist called Ego Leonard who will be exhibiting in London in the coming weeks.”
Let’s hope the mystery is solved.
30-year LEGO minifig timeline on Gizmodo
Jesus Diaz over at Gizmodo has posted a pictorial timeline of the LEGO minifig over the 30 years of its glorious plastic life.
Fair warning that several hundred images on a single page might take a while to load:
The BrickLink Reference Catalog lists just over 4,000 minifigs, so the Gizmodo timeline isn’t complete, but the pictures sure are pretty. ;-)
Yeah, he’s coming for you...
In honor of Halloween, here is a stylish, but creepy, minifig by David McNeely. I love the frill effect of the blue plumes, but this guy is gonna be keeping me up tonight.
Minifig-scale Alien Chestburster by pirie1
The Fine Clonier Haunted Halloween Custom Minifig Contest has resulted in some great minifigs, including all of Jamie Spencer’s spooky figs.
One of my favorites so far, though, is this custom Chestburster (from Alien) by pirie1:
Alien and Predator minifigs by Legohaulic
Tyler Clites goes theatrical with his latest batch of minifigs, inspired by the Predator and Alien movies.
Notice the minifig hands Tyler used for the Predator’s mouth:
Portal 0937 interviews Michael Jasper
Michael Jasper is easily one of my favorite builders. His many minuscule creations simultaneously inspire and annoy. (“Genius! So simple! Why didn’t I think of that?!”)
Portuguese LEGO fan community Portal 0937 has posted a great interview with the artist many LEGO fans know mainly by his Brickshelf user name — “mijasper“.
LEGO elements, in particular those small and special ones, can be used in many ways – you just have to look at them as what they could be.
Head on over to Portal 0937 to read the full interview with Michael Jasper.

At the center of my heart is a minifig
Okay, not really (my wife would kill me if that were true), but Casper‘s brother created this stunning bronze sculpture to celebrate the minifig’s 30th birthday.
Casper described the process in a comment on MOCpages:
The technique is that you start out with styrofoam and dig a hole with a very hot thingy. Then you place a Minifig in the midle and place the whole thing in castig and make a molding form(?). Then you burn this in a very hot oven as to make everything plastic and organic to burn away. Then you pour bronze into the mold and wupti – this is what you get.
Contrary to some of the horrified responses, I think this is a beautiful piece of LEGO-inspired art.

Anatomy of a minifig
Jason Freeny, a talented artist and designer, rendered the anatomy of a minifig in stunning detail. Wait, I never knew our minifigs had so much guts, and pretty much everything else is included as well, down to the family jewels.
Check out Jason’s website for more interesting works and deviant art that showcases the artist’s amazing creativity.

New BrickArms prototypes: Bazooka, MGL, MG42, Colt, and more [Preview]
Will Chapman from BrickArms took the summer off from work to try focusing exclusively on custom minifig accessories.
Starting with BrickWorld 2008 in June, each LEGO convention has revealed more and more new products and prototypes.
Thanks to the extra time he has now, Will has been churning out more prototypes in his garage than we can count — particularly for those of you eager for World War II accessories.
For your Allied minifigs, the Bazooka M9 (with M6 rocket) will pack a serious punch:
On the Axis side, the German Panzerfaust 30 anti-tank weapon and MG42 machine gun will complement the MP40 SMG and C96 Mauser:
One of the most intriguing new prototypes is the U-clip (“U” for universal). The U-clip can connect any two objects that can fit into a minifig hand.
The potential applications seem infinite, such as attaching a bayonet (also a new BrickArms prototype) to your Lee-Enfield SMLE, a Combat Knife (again, new) to your M4 Carbine, or simulating an M203 grenade launcher with a black LEGO lightsaber handle:
Between our earlier coverage and the Zombie Apocafest, readers should already be familiar with the Lewis gun and Combat Shotgun:
The current Lewis gun prototype solves a minor issue with the earlier version (the drum tended to pop off fairly easily) by attaching the drum to the gun with a clip-like stud. This does make the drum more secure, but it resembles T-21 blaster from Star Wars a bit less with the drum removed.
A couple of the more unique new weapons include a game-inspired gunblade and a Derringer:
The MGL (multiple grenade launcher) will enable your minifigs to take on Decepticons and Predators alike with ease:
Finally, fans of Western movies get two iconic pistols — the Colt Navy 1861 revolver and the M1917 revolver (which looks a lot like the Colt Single Action Army “Peacemaker”):
For those of you wondering when we’ll see all this great stuff in production, here’s the final word from Will:
The next mold (in black and/or bley) will include the Combat Knife and Combat Shotgun for sure, and most likely the MGL, Lewis Gun, and Paintball Gun, but the lineup is still being decided. Look for that mold in early 2009, perhaps even by BrickFest 2009 in Portland!
The swords and Colt Navy will most likely be added to a silver mold, sometime soon as well. I’m still coordinating the layout for it. The other items may be limited-edition “garage releases”, as time permits. All will eventually see production.
Did he just say swords and paintball guns? Yes indeed. Look for a preview of those in the next few days from Josh. ;-)
