A table strong enough to hold the Earth

I think it’s fair to say a LEGO build by Ralf Langer is always a going to be special. So when this appeared in my feed, I felt it needed to be shared with the readers of TBB. At first glance, it’s an elegant table adorned with a little tree. But there’s always more! Using artistic license, Ralf has created a map of the world in the table design, which compliments the colour of the tree’s leaves perfectly. Using plant stem parts, these leaves capture a naturalistic look, sitting proudly atop the table. A round shape is notoriously difficult to recreate in Lego form but Ralf has executed it to great effect here, using a nice solution to capture a rimmed edge to the table.

If you could build anything in the world...

Apparently, Martin Latta could not choose between all the amazing things on Earth to build out of LEGO, so he just built all of them, in a really tiny scale. Can you pinpoint the exact brick on which you live? I have found mine!

The Earth

The build is based on Bram’s Sphere Generator, a free online tool anyone can use to generate instructions for a LEGO sphere of any diameter (Martin’s Earth has a radius of 14 studs). The builder adds a lot of his own flare to the creation with different colours and textures used for different regions of the world – from dark green as vanishing rainforests to white as vanishing glaciers. Stay tuned for our 2075 article when we will feature a new globe made of all tan and grey colours!

You could have the whole world in your hands

Just the other day I was looking at a handful of Nexo hexagons, wondering what fun things I could do with them. It appears that JD Keller beat me to the punch! This cartographer (maker of maps) by trade, has found a unique way to turn them into a globe. His build incorporates yield signs and some interesting techniques with rubber bands to hold it all together.
