Disney/Pixar’s latest animated film Soul is about a music teacher with a secret passion for Jazz, who lands the opportunity of a lifetime, to play alongside his biggest inspiration, a Saxophone player named Dorothea Williams. Chi Hsin Wei has captured this unique character in LEGO perfectly, from her bountiful hairdo to her casual pose. She leans back on one foot while putting her heart and soul into her music. One of my favorite details is the red headband just above her forehead, and if you look closely, you can just see a hint of an earing peeking out from under her hair.

Time for some serious shredding
Radical! School is over for the day so it’s off to the skate park, as seen in this LEGO creation by Chi Hsin Wei.
What’s not to love about this? From the kid poppin’ an ollie to the stair rail grind, everything about this super rad. I especially like the detail given to the individual skateboarders. The pink socks on the girl are fantastic, as are the Converse high tops on the kid in the air. Perhaps the best part of this, however, is the ghetto blaster at the base of the stairs. For those of us who used to rule the concrete slopes, no skate session is complete without some fresh beats.
You are not prepared! (for this LEGO Illidan Stormrage from World of Warcraft)
A cornerstone of gaming, the role-playing online game World of Warcraft, has recently had a resurgence. The re-release of its original form (before seven expansions) has had millions hooked, me including. I guess that explains my lack of activity in the LEGO world… But while everybody else is busy killing boars and growing out their hair, Chi Hsin Wei has been building. The result is Illidan Stormrage, one of the central characters in the Warcraft storyline.
The character is obviously instantly recognizable, with the torn wings, green demonic tattoos and his weapons, the warglaives of Azzinoth built using lime green dragon wings. The muscles of the upper body are quite impressive, as is the construction of the character’s pants that look like they have not been changed for ten thousand years…
The great Arctic wanderer
Do you ever wonder what a polar bear thinks as he or she travels hundreds of miles, alone, across the vast ice? Other than, “I can smell a seal about 14km away,” there has to be something they daydream about. Doesn’t this tiny LEGO version of the half-ton carnivore, built by Chi Hsin Wei (LEGO 7), look like he has a lot on his mind?
My favorite parts are the tiles in clips for ears and the car hoods on his sides. This build is great, but it’s only one of many incredible creations by LEGO 7, our 2018 Builder of the Year. This talented artist builds just about everything!
