Builder Deus Otiosus describes this nifty dungeon diorama as “greatly inspired by Adventure Time, partially by World of Warcraft and another large portion by urban exploration”. So while you won’t find stats for his treasure-spewing Chest Dweller in your 5th edition Monster Manual, I still think this would make for one hilarious D&D encounter!
After numerous animated and live action adaptations, J.M. Barrie’s classic children’s tale is back on our screens yet again in 2015. Of course in this grittier version, Captain Hook won’t be sporting the colorful outfit seen in the Disney movies. But that didn’t dissuade German builder Markus Rollbühler from kicking it old-school with this amazing red and magenta recreation of Pan’s incompetent adversary, complete with ticking reptilian nemesis:
The Brothers Brick are huge fans of the Japanese animator and film maker Hayao Miyazaki. And even though his works have got the LEGO treatment on many occasions, we always enjoy seeing a fresh take on them. So we were thrilled when Finnish builder Eero Okkonen decided to build large scale versions of Mito, Nausicaä, Lord Yupa and Kushana from the epic Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds.
UPDATE: Here’s the complete cast (for now, Eero says), with the addition of Charuka, Chikuku, and Kurotowa.
Last July, the LEGO Wall-E designed by Pixar director/animator Angus MacLane achieved 10,000 votes on LEGO Ideas, and its approval as an upcoming official set was announced in February. LEGO officially unveiled the set just yesterday, but thanks to the good people of Billund, we already have a copy of the set for a hands on review!
Spoiler alert: Wall•E is a a fantastic model with some great building techniques, lots of parts in an unusual color, and quite a good value for the money. I expect strong popularity from the subject matter alone, so I strongly recommend you pick up your LEGO Wall•E while supplies last.

Fresh from his win in our Bricknado contest and rapidly becoming on of my favorite brick sculptors, simplybrickingit has put together this wonderfully engaging and kinetic pair of Jive dancers. Such is the interaction between these two figures that – according to the builder – they cannot stand up alone, but counterbalance one another when connected at the hand.
Huh, here’s another cool Japanese-themed something or other today. This nasty devil-guy is brought to you by Djordje, whose entertaining something-or-others we’ve featured here before.
What makes Djordje’s Bionicle creations so engaging is their personality. In addition to using Bionicle and Hero Factory parts — just look at the Hero Factory logos he’s used as teeth! — to build more than Toas, Moas, and other such characters indistinguishable from official sets (every one with their own unique backstory, I’m sure), each of his characters has, well, character. Check ’em out.
Minions are adorable. And now that we’re going to get another true Star Wars movie, we can all like Star Wars again. So what happens when Spanish builder car_mp mashes up the two? Well, Minion Yoda, of course.

My wife’s reaction: “I want Minion Star Wars. I’m going to cry now if I don’t get Minion Star Wars.” Sounds about right.

While it may look like some kind of extreme ballet, or very unusual form of back therapy, wrestling fans may recognize this move – expertly recreated in LEGO by simplybrickingit – as the suplex. But can you tell which of the 50+ variants it is? Or what happens next? (…without looking at the script?)
It’s rare to see articulated joints used in a character build in a way that doesn’t mar the appearance of the model. And rarer still to see those joints used to actually showcase the model in some interesting poses. But Anton Sundström knocks it out of the park with this adorable recreation of Shantae, the half-genie action heroine from the Nintendo game of the same name.
Anton has totally nailed the costume, thanks to liberal use of curved slopes and clever use of bananas, life preservers, the One Ring and even a sausage to make the mouth posable. And since Shantae’s main weapon is her pony tail, that too is fully articulated. Brilliant!
As the Minions prequel slap-stravaganza makes it’s way through movie theaters this week, LEGO versions are starting to pop up, and here are two of my favorites. It’s always interesting to see different builders’ interpretations of the same subject matter – proving that there’s no one ‘right’ way to build anything:
While both models lean towards the “studs hidden” end of the scale, James Zhan‘s Stuart sticks to a more traditional studs-up technique, while umamen‘s Carl goes studs-out and heavy on the cheese slopes. Yet both models nail it with lots of detail and plenty of character. Cumbaya!
