The Time Twisters Contest [News]

Two members of Classic Castle, Aliencat and Bluesecrets, are putting on something called “The Time Twisters Contest“. I know you are wondering if this has something to do with that bizarre theme from the ’90s. The answer is ‘No’.

They want you to “medievalize” an official Lego set….any official Lego set. Here is an example of what they are looking for:

Pick a set, any set. Figure out how it would look as a “Castle” set and build it. Naturally, you don’t have to actually own the original set, as you do not need use the pieces. Go Twist some Time!

Colossal Castle Contest Winners Announced! [News]

The Classic-Castle Admins have finished the judging and announced the results! Check out the winners. There are some excellent castle creations there. If you need more Castle goodness, take a peek at all the entries. While there were less entries this year, the quality seems to continue to rise. I can tell you, it was hard to judging this year.

Stefan Hunts Dragons

Stefan (– 2×4 –) has built a fun little diorama of a heroic dragon hunter, on what is probably his last hunt. I love the sense of motion this scene evokes, with both the “dragon” and hunter poised in mid-air.

As Arthur C Clarke said, “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

St. Cadoc’s Church

Luke Watkins posted this fantastic church from the Medieval Life category from Classic-Castle’s CCCVII:

The details all around are just incredible. I love the stone look to the building itself. The shields around the base are simply fantastic and add a great sense of completion to the creation.

Grand theft of animal roundup

First is an everyday sight for me, goat theft thwarted by a bull mountain troll. I’m not sure which of Steve Vargo’s (:jovian:) features I like the best, the goats, the troll, the nature bits, the action capture or the rail fence. I really don’t know.

The second is something I see slightly less frequently, but it is still a pretty common sight: cow theft in giant flying washtubs. Precisely what Liwnik captures in this great scene. I particularly like the resulting crop circle. It explains a lot.

Garrison at Pickerel Point

Stefan (busboy89) posted a fantastic fortification on a cliff, calling it Garrison at Pickerel Point. The whole creation is simply lovely, with all the rich detail. I personally adore the ivy on the cliff side.

Daniel Z’s Slot Weijenaard

Um. Yeah. Wow. And this is only one of about half a dozen phenomenal creations by Daniel Z “DNL” posted this past week for pretty much every category in the Colossal Castle Contest VII. This one stands out to me because brown is an unusual color for castle creations, castles of this tone and type are actually more common throughout the world than we initially think, and I like brown. There! I said it. I like brown.

This Wizard’s Castle is a balancing act

The architecture of mr. eugene‘s Wizard’s Castle follows a daring design with the bulk of its weight balanced on three support stands. If that’s not already impressive, the castle boosts some elaborate designs such as the observation tower, not to mention having a fully detailed interior.

...and ’tis Thor who shall see to the task!

Classic-Castle member and customizer babyjawa posted a fantastic creation for the Custom Castle Figure portion of CCCVII: Thor!

BJ has a great eye for his custom figures, and Thor is no exception.

Feast of Fools!

If you’re still working on your last-minute entries into Classic-Castle‘s CCCVII, you should know you’ve got 3 hours until the deadline (11:59pm EST).

With that said, there have been some excellent entries this year–I don’t envy the judges, since they’ve got the hard job.

Flickr user 2 Much Caffeine has submitted another fantastic creation: Feast of Fools!

The action really caught my eye. It just has this great sense of sheer pandemonium, which I’d very much associate with a feast of this kind.

lugpol’s impending LEGO domination

Their 1-step plan is apparently to have their members build mindbogglingly awesome stuff, again and again and again. Really, I want to know how the creations posted online with the little lugpol logo are so consistently great.

crises-crs‘ Zero to Hero – part 1: Winter

Great by itself, but in parts 2 and 3, he subtly changes the lighting, some building details, and the action to capture the different feel of the seasons and the progress of the hero’s training.

For a very different feel, but equally neat creation, here’s PigletCiamek‘s Arabian Street 2: The Caravanserai.

Any lugpol members out there, please tell us why you are so totally cool. I know it’s nothing sinister, but I would like to know what certain groups do to regularly present such an impressive level of building, LowLUG is another prime example.
