Minifigs of spooky season – the first omen [Minifig Monday]

Throughout October, spooky builds take over LEGO feeds like a Spirit Halloween store. With so many eerily good costumes and creepy characters this month, we thought it would be a treat to summon the specters early for a month of monstrous madness!

ASortaOkayBuilder kicks things off with Manny, the skeletal bard. Equipped with Héctor’s guitar from Coco and a trans neon green ectoplasmic flourish, this swashbuckling is the perfect minifig to lead us to the lands of the dead.

Captain Dark Shark captures footage of paranormal activity in medieval times. Created for the newly launched Graymane Guild Role-Play community, this haunting is sure to kick of an epic quest when the villager enlists magical help to solve the Ahsenhollow curse.

Anotherlegoaccount has been going through the decades capturing obscure horror films you’ve probably never heard of, like the obscure 1979 Soviet sci-fi thriller “In Space” with its hideous Extroform. The scene with the mandroid was terrifying. I’m just glad the dog survives.

A symphony of Silksong tributes in LEGO

Hollow Knight: Silksong is the rare game that delivers on the hype, blending beautiful worldbuilding with brutal difficulty. Protagonist Hornet and the bug-like denizens of Pharloom have inspired an outpouring of fan models from the LEGO community. Here are some of our favorites!

Fresh off his incredible series of Hollow Knight builds, Joss Ivanwood begins climbing Pharloom with a series of encounters. First, Hornet encounters Shakra, the mapmaker. She’s a lot tougher than Cornifer!

My favorite of Joss’ new builds is Sherma, just a little guy on a big pilgrimage! The party hat in golld makes a perfect miniature chime.

Looks like meat’s back on the menu: 19 custom LEGO orcs [Minifig Monday]

From Tolkien to Warhammer and everything in between, orcs are the biggest, baddest, and often funniest fantasy baddies of any setting they appear in. This week we’ve put together a horrendous horde of LEGO orcs from the custom community. You’ll find more than a few surprises in this one!

A king of cohesion, capt.dark.shark unleashes Commander Kragg the Cleaver. There’s so much to love here, the new(ish) Viking helmet fits so flush with the CMF Orc jaw, while pushing the ears out to make a unique head shape. The oversized olive green arm is actually from Jabba the Hutt, and sticking an axe on the end of a prosthetic is delightfully impractical as it is fiendishly orcish.

Lessor in the orc kingdoms but certainly not in the minifig world, these night goblins from Karp_brick have some excellent black cape layering and subtle diversity in the heads and headwear. We’ve spotted faces from the CMF Goblin, Star Wars Niamoidian and a Ninjago orc.

Older bigfigs are famous for lack of customisation options, but dwalinforkbeard has expertly used black capes to cover a more scifi torso to create something that is right at home in a medieval fantasy setting. Add that to the whimsical mushroom picking vibe and you’ve got a great looking orc dude.

Making magic with mind-bending custom minfigs [Minifig Monday]

Last week’s grab bag installment of Minifig Monday was a lot of fun, but today we return to themed roundups. Specifically, we’re looking at wizards and warlocks and their sorcerous kindred – but the real magic is in the creative use of parts to push the boundaries of minifig creation!

We start this magical Monday collection with a character who is barely a wizard at all – Rincewind from the Discworld novels. As created by legendary minifig photographer Jez Rider, Rincewind is accompanied by The Luggage and a definitely-not-stolen sheep.

Custom minifigs represent! This incredible Wicked duo from LEGO Masters winner Ian Summers (bricktacular_builds) is currently in the LEGO House Masterpiece Gallery, and might be the smallest build to get that honor. The parts usage is mind-blowing, especially the backwards arms, Glinda’s teapot body, and a beard for Elphaba’s broom. I had the chance to speak with Ian at LEGO House and he’s a fan of Minifig Monday and the creations shared here.

Backwards arms? Redbirch ups the ante with legs for arms! The builder has only shared 11 MOCs so far, but they’ve already made Minifig Monday twice with some of the most innovative parts usage we’ve seen. Look at those extended legs, made by slotting a minifig hand into the leg hole. The handlebar shoulder armor is great too.

No Theme? No Problem! A Wild Card Showcase of Minifig Excellence [Minifig Monday]

This week, we’re throwing out the rulebook and smashing the (injection) mould. Welcome to a Wild Card edition on Minifig Monday — a glorious grab-bag of minifigure madness where demons rub shoulders with space police, and chicken hags party with cake golems. You read that right. This week’s featured builders are a masterclass in thinking outside the LEGO box. Expect surprises, odd pairings, and a whole lot of imagination.

Our first pick is this incredible shark samurai from bricksnbeasts, featuring a vintage shark head from the early 2000s Harry Potter line, but also some fantastic dynamic posing achieved with some brick-built arms. Surrounded by an impressive shiver of almost every LEGO Shark to date. Aura off the charts!

Can you smell what synthbugfigs is cooking? It is a jaw-dropping cake golem. With dripping frosting and an impressively organic-looking build, this fig certainly defies categorisation… and makes us hungry.

Heroes of Fur and Feather Challenge 3: Heart and Darkness [Contest]

Every year at Delving Day, aspiring heroes travel from the peaceful Valley to Dungeon Crossing. Everyone is taught from a young age that Delving Day proves that all animals are equal. After all, everyone has the same chance of success. Most heroes emerge victorious with rollicking tales to share of their adventures. Sure, a few delvers never return, but it’s a small price to pay for lasting peace. But what if Delving Day isn’t about preserving equality at all, but about protecting those animals who are more equal than others? The truth is coming to light for Olly, Liri, and Kitara, the three heroes created by guest collaborators Jacob Manahan, beyondb0nes, and Red Impala. Brennan (@brickbot_studio) joins the mix with the villain (or anti-hero?) Caelus Velmorne.

Over sixty heroes showed up for Delving Day with many sharing their adventures with amazing LEGO builds and juicy lore. Thanks to all who participated. A day of knights from LEGO stars [Minifig Monday]

Where I live in Sweden, we’re in that time of year when day never ends, which has me craving ~~night~~ Knights! For this week’s Minifig Monday, we’re rounding up enough white knights, royal champions, and bullish bruisers to surround a round table, and a strong dose of NEXO Knights!

We start with Sir Candrel, the Luminous Flameknight, from Linus (minifigurebuilds). He may equip NEXO pauldrons and shield, but this knight works with wax, not wires. I love the use of Shakespeare’s neck frill atop the helmet and the fur collar on the axe for dripping wax detail.

Sobek Bricks is back with Calanthia the Dragon Slayer, a half-elf knight with flower maidens to hold up her flowing cape. I don’t know what I like better about Calanthia’s combo – the curved horns on the helmet, or the winged goat by her side.

Let’s roll up some advanced Dungeons and Dragons LEGO characters [Minifig Monday]

Last year LEGO released a minifigure I never would have expected in a thousand years – a mindflayer paired with an intellect devourer. Dungeons and Dragons turned out to be the perfect license to deliver fantasy and medieval accessories to an underserved audience. While it’s uncertain if LEGO will release any other D&D sets in the future, the creative minifig building community isn’t slowing down in rolling up new charcters. Let’s have a look at some recent highlights!

What started as a group of friends and actors livestreaming their D&D campaigns became a media empire for Critical Role, culminating in the animated series The Legend of Vox Machina. Fantasy minifig artisan Thorgrihm pays tribute to the show with his take on the cast.

ASortaOkayBuilder was also inspired by D&D in other media and made a minifig tribute to the Not Another D&D Podcast. This Steel Hawk Fighter is called Zudrick of the Murder and is equipped with an oversized anime sword for over-the-top stabbing.

These magical minifigs have us under their spell [Minifig Monday]

On Minifig Mondays, we take a break from brick-intensive builds to appreciate the creativity found in the minifig scene. We prioritize characters made with official LEGO elements where the combination of accessories and expressions creates a personality that entrances the viewer. On that note, this week’s theme is magic using minifigs, and this set of characters has us spellbound!

Captain Dark Shark creates a wandering feline sorceress that surely has nine lifetimes of adventures to share. Even though the head draws from the Wizarding World (a polyjuice-ified Hermione), this fig gives big anime or cozy game vibes.

ASortaOkayBuilder also brings a Potterverse cat to the table for this apprentice illusionist. The poor wizard strains under the load of too much study material!
